nop pump was primed when it was built,

right well its all sorted and she runs with a nice high oil pressure

well started teh day by pulliugn the engine out stripping it and rebuilding it with fresh gaskets as the little o ring waqsnt selling, could tell when i tuck it apart as as could see were iot had been suckign air.

any wya put it back in teh car got everythign connected fired her up and 0 psi of oill pressure again

so pulled it back out again and stripped teh clutch end and checked my oil pump, it was primmed and ready, only issue was id put the stupid gasket on upside down doh, XD

so put a new gasket on and youll never guess what

well over 100 psi of pressure.

i feel like such a tard, checked the oil and the engine when it was apart, looks like the pump was getting oil to the important bits it was just doing a shoicking job.

so fingers crossed shell be ok, gonna take it nice and slowly with her till shes propperly run in.

just got to get my timmiing light on her tomorrow and change the needle and shhell run nice and sweet :techsupport:

yeha i checked teh crank bearings,

right ive got it running but its ildes at 1500rpm and i cant get it any lower 1500 is the lowest i can get it to before it dies.

ive tried every thing tappets, dizzy, 3 carbs 2 inlet manifolds and 2 exhaust manifolds nothing is making it better, is there soemthign im missing, its really getting me down now, as if i set it to 1000rpm it kindad starts but its like its hunting for the idle , and its dead ropey, like the whole engine is shaking, its not normal.

now im thinking is this because of my 649 cam? and my 1.5 rockers and i set the tappets at 15tho

im in need of some desprete help on this ive spent 10 hours tryign to sort it today and it just feel like ive had my bum spanked with a metal pole,

has any one else had issues with trying to set the idle on there car after a rebuild

ive also had to put the mechanical fuel pump back on as my facet and pressure reg were to harsh for it and were over fueling it :/

Im asuming you have set the timing before trying to set the carb? 8-10 deg before TDC?...That cam is not going to let you have a smooth low idle.....but it should still tick over below 1500...

yeah cam timing is already set, its stressing me out now, i was close to just pushing it into the road and pooring petrol on it and lighting a match and doing a insurance claim

With a cam like the 649 (notoriously bad idle), it's barely going to idle at all at 1000, and even then only once it's been brought up to temperature.

I'm assuming you've been trying to set it up once the engine's properly warm??

i think i know what it is so gonna check tomorrow, and fingers crossed

mine would idle at over 1000 with my 286 scatter and webber carb... Sounds like uv had a right battle with this engine. Hopefully the stress will be over soon!

Well,

although your mates idles at 900 with a 649, I think you will have trouble achiving it because, you are 100cc less than his, The 7 port intakes are HUGE so gass speed will be crap at idle,

also if you have a mega light flywheel it can affect things.

that said try upping the running idle timing to about 18 deg, thats where mine likes to run.

right i can offically say after 3 days of batteling to get the thing to run.

.

we have lift of!

got it running today and idling at 900 rpm, what it seems to of been was when i first tried to set teh car up on my aldon dizzy i got a horrible back fire and it wouldnt rev, so i swaped for my mpi one, which got it reving nice but wouldnt idle.

to cut a long story short, i was right with my aldon dizzy as it has the right curves for my engine, but my braided oil pressure pipe wasnt allowing me to get enougth swing on the dizzy, so ive had to remove it and put my little elce sender like on a standar car back in and modify it with my die grinder. but car is running nice.

cam is horrible to drive on, i will say that now wish id put something not so harsh in, as trying to run it in is hard because as soon as it comes on to the cam i have to change gear, and its just not giving me any power, im finding my self bouncing down the road all the time. but once you hit that limit and the cam kicks in, its like driving a tottaly diffrent car.

but on teh drive back from my work shop to my house i manged to shake my rocker cover lose and spray oil every were but ive fixed that, and the engine has tried to snap the engine steady brack from the bualkhead, so got that to fix tommorrow or wednesday, who knows.

but im so happy its all over

Well done for getting it runing.....(so it was the timing then)...You will have to put up with the lack of power for a while, But whooaa, when its run in, are you gonna have some fun!!

Do you plan on getting it to a dyno to sort the fuelling? Once the carbs are set up it should be a different car.

yeah at the mo im runnign a 5 port head to run the bottom end in and then once ive done that ill upgrade to my 7 port head and get it all set up and runnign at once to stop any issue of glazing the bores.

yeah its horrible to drive atm as its just so lumpy and i cant put and power down as im running it in.

oh and i managed to get a ride on a tow truck this morning :/

the bloody engine snapped my engine steady brack clean of at the bualk head. so got home got the welder out welded a heavy duty plate in its place, and fitted 3 more engine stedies, down side to this is that it vibrates so much, i dont like it much but im sure the misses will enjoy it.

outher than that ive just be driving all day trying to get some miles on it

oh and ive worked out why shes a bit smokey, when i used the head last i noticed valve seals were rubish, of course ive forgot to change them hence her smoking, so ill wait till riv has been as ill pick up a copper head gasket, and ill do it next week as i have a set of new valve seals in my room some were
