It is a slow process for me, as this is the first time I am puttting in a floor carpet in my first time mini resto, and all has to be 100%, no wrong decision cuts, only have one shot at it!!At least with the welding jobs you can start again, with this however,.......not!
Then again, my next mini will be easyer,..I hope

You are getting there! But how can you face a next Mini??? I struggle to work on the one! It looks great.
Hugh
Hugh,
Putting the carpet in nicely is not easy the first time, so it will take a few more days in between shifts.
by the way, check this one out; Total Rebuild Of '71 Evy
I have started working on her beginning this year, had to stop because no space in garage to weld and grind with this one about, so will carry on with Evy very soon......

started today with securing the crossmember piece, may I add that this is the only piece wich is glued on and only on the top, as the seat brackets will hold it in place at the front, and the rear carpet piece will hold it tight at the back of the cross panel. I must admit to put the seat brackets on was more work then I thought it would be, but the best result I got was to glue the carpet down on the top of the crossmember, then put a nail in any one of the bracket retaining nuts, push the carpet as tight as possible against the nail and use a sharp pointed dawl to press through the fabric after removing the nail, this is then your guide hole. use a seat bracket as template to locate the other retaining nut in the cross member keep the carpet tight against the panel and trial fit the bracket with the bolts. when doing the second bracket, on the same side, make sure your carpet is tight and there are no cross-wrinkles before you make the next holes. If you follow this, you are mad enough to do it.
As mentioned before, no glue was used not even in the inner sill panels, the sill carpet will be held in place with the door seal at the top and floor carpets on the bottem and secured with the seatbelt bolt.
Having finished both the sill pieces and the cross member piece, I felted up the tunnel, and the rear floors with glue spray, leaving an opening on both sides for the seat belt bungles and a gap behind the hand-brake lever to create enough access to the cable tightening nuts.

Full carpet down, If in near future, my son want's to have speakers at the back I simply lift the carpets of the floor, run the wires and put carput back, further I did make 5mm holes every 10" allong side the inner-sill panels to be able to anually wax-oil the inner/outer sill area, so again simply remove the sill carpet, do the waxing... clean up the mess and refit the carpet. what can I say......

finish this one tomorrow with attaching the seat-belt bungles to the tunnel and putting the seat's in.

Seatbelt bungles in,
rear wheel arch vinyl covers on both sides
trial fit driver seat and both seats in, did a short drive, noticed it would be better to change the seats on subframes as the driver-side seat was to low.
back in the garage with the seats swapped over after a little drive, much better and car easyer to handle.

I gave the Carb an overhaul to as the fuel mixture was set to rich (to much carbon build up on the spark-plugs) and the engine backfired a bit. Also needed a new fan belt as I did not change the old one, just forgot, that got rid of the squeaking noise.
next few days order number plates and going to see my friend Micky Slater to give the mini a final inspection and verdict,.....and book him in for an MOT.

I didn't realise you were also a serial project addict as well??

Shifty, Cheers,....I need to put that quote "SERIAL PROJECT ADDICT AT WORK!" on my Garage!!lol
I have learned a lot with this first one and looking with a critical eye myself,I know there are a few faults, and I suppose a trained eye will find those too. I will not repeat those on EVY that is for sure.
Thank you for keeping a watchfull eye on my projects, when Muk is on the road we can meet up one day at the Atcham-Wellington road, on those kinda monthly mini meetings.

It must be getting close to completion. I am longing till I reach that point!! It does look super.
Hugh
Hugh,
yep nearly there 99% , fettling here and there. Numberplates today give the brakes a once go over, check steering
(is a bit out) check the locks, align the head lights etc. MOT will be on the 25th 10 am. As this is my first project,...getting a bit nervous about it, then again if there is anything not right, it will be easy to solve,...I hope!
I will have a few cup's of tea when he passes the test though!!

so I had an hour to kill, could not wait to put them on,...Rear first....looks good!

Then the front........needed to make a steel back-plate and weld it onto the plate bracket's under the bumper, so sanded a few dot's on bracket's cut a bit of steel plate(slightly smaller then new number plate) marked and drilled holes for a bit of spot welding tomorrow, primed the lot and gave it a coat of black.
should finish that tomorrow,.....perhaps!
