Dont worry about the bottom of the Drop gears... unless the big bearing in the gearbox housing is worn, You can replace the "nose" bearing by removing the rollers one by one from the plastic housing...then you need a bearing puller to remove the inner race...dont forget to wheek the circlip off first though...But if its in good condition I would just give it a good clean and refit...If you replace the bearing you will have to replace the outer race in the transfer housing..which is a pig of a job...As for the idler gear, the ones ive fitted have just gone in either way. I have heard some people say that they are sided but I cant see any difference...same length stud either side as far as I can tell...

If you already have a duplex chain just change the chain. The sprockets are normally fine. If you want to use high revs with a Duplex, don't fit the tensioner as they can break up.

OK. If you've got a Duplex chain there are two widths of chain manufactured as one and each sprocket has two rows of teeth. If you have just a single row chain, it's up to you whether you go to a Duplex or just change the existing chain and, ideally, the tensioner. In practice, a single row is fine unless you want to use seriously nhigh revs.
The work on the big diesel went fine and it's running like a dream. Thanks for asking. Gee, it's a big, and I mean BIG engine.

Yes It comes in the engine gasket set..I think the only gaskets that dont come in the engine set are the timing chain gasket and the rocker cover gasket....Oh and the cylinder head gasket...

Hi buds which cam followers should i get 44grams with oil drain holes i noticed the ones i removed had sludge in the bottom
will the drain oil holes eliminate this or prolong the build up

I have also noticed the gasket set only has 1 half moon seal is this all i require because i cant find the other half on mini spares web site ??

Also after seeing the BIG engine who has the biggest spanner

I've never used the cam followers with the small drain holes as it seems to me that a hole at the base of the follower is a potential stress raiser. The standard ones are fine.
There is just one 'half-moon' seal so you are OK there.
I used to deal with W.H. Allen at Bedford who made marine engines. They had a V12 tugboat engine and each piston was about 15" diameter. Fantastic engineering.
