Ahh yes there is nothing like opening boxes full of new shiny bits...

Countersunk screws in timing plate..

Posted Image

Modifications to the inside of the timing cover to accept a duplex chain..There is a small lump that needs to be hammered flat aswell as removing the metal behind the breather hole.

Posted Image

I always cut the breather down a bit to clear the fan...most people just bash it flat with a hammer...either way works but i think this looks better..

Sorry to be filling your thread with pictures....let me know if you want links instead..

to get the lot balenced you send the crank with flywheel and clutch plate off to a machine shop and ask them to balance it. its not to expensive and is definatly worth it! and to balance the rods you could also send them off the the machine shop and ask them to balance them but i dont know how much roughly it would cost.

to do it yourself get a set of good, accurate scales and weigh them. then make them all weigh the same as the lightest one, but making sure you are not touching the bearing faces or anywhere near that are. just where the rough cast is.

I see clubman so its just about chipping away at rough casting to get the same weights might ask the engineer what he would charge.

Cheers Andy. I've got this bug now totally love the engine building wish i had unlimited funds and could go crazy

So that is the engine ready for collection and my bank balance £350 lighter.

That cost is for: camshaft bearings, full set of crank and piston bearings, head skimmed, bores polished up, piston rings and crank polished. that is including VAT and some carriage cost on some parts.

you reckon thats reasonable?

Think i need a better paid job to fund this habit :nuke:

Just keep lapping the inlets untill they are the same as the exhaust...Course paste first, then fine paste..should only take two minutes per valve.. Head looks great..I love freshly machined parts..

Aye it's made a massive pit in the finances lucky I don't have too much overheads still dossing at my folks place just be glad when it's on the road can't wait to start assembling.
Still need to get the clutch Plate, and look into upgrading timing chain and flywheel then hopefully I get paid enough to cover mot and tax

Engineering work looking nice indeed, had some done myself but not as much as you. I too like the look of.freshly machined engines, just degraded the cylinders on mime and keep looking and feeling them. Help me please !!!

Seriously tho, keep it up, enjoying the thread.

Interesting one ordered my new clutch plate, lightweight flywheel and duplex timing chain set (went with standard instead of adjustable), in process i measured the clutch plate diameter to double check lone behold only 175mm so guessing someone has installed a 180mm one at somepoint instead of a 190mm could job i am replacing it.
