GET SOME GLASSES QUICK. I tried it without some for a quick job and ended up in A&E with a punctured eye. Not good experience to go through let me tell you. Annoying, yes, but safety first please !!

I would like to add that the guy with the grinder does not work directly for us hence why he gets away with the lack of safety gear. We would always recommend full eye and ear protection then grinding along with long sleeves and gloves.

Rubber underpants are optional.

Just have a check for pin holes in the middle section as the welds have not been ground down as much as else where and may need a bit more and then re gringing, otherwise looks fine.

This guy has been welding most of his life, he was a fabricator by trade and used to make fairground rides. I can assure you this is no half arsed attempt at welding. You can't see the patch at all in person! The light off the camera makes it look more uneven than it really is, he must've spent a good 10 minutes dressing the weld afterwards.

Oh, and he's been into mini's for around 25 years, so he knows his stuff too!
Good person to seek advice from at times for us.

I look forward to some pics when the car comes back from the spray job next week!! :proud:

now another 3 weeks to wait for the mini :tumble: keep the pics coming in the meantime, that would be great =)

Won't get chance to get on a computer today but I will send you a picture of the engine via text message later. We have stripped the head off the engine to check the bores an pistons etc. and all looks good, we will replace today with a new gasket and give the engine a clean up, get all the ancillaries cleaned up and connected and ready to drop into the car. I'll get you some other pictures of bits waiting to go on the car too.

We have set aside a couple of hours tomorrow to go to the spray shop to check everything out so will have a full update on paint tomorrow for you once we get back.

We have the carb and inlet manifold for the engine too so just need a carb needle and exhaust sorted for it. Would you like a single or twin exit pipe?
