there is a mixture of long and short bolts for the timing gear cover.....just use another short one..... :-)

there is one that is a nut and bolt..........is that the one that you are having problems with?

It mayb, it was in my box of bits the housing was the 1098 didnt have any timing gear on it at all. Cant see that i would get a bolt through the hole to put a nut on it! would have to use a smaller bolt to get it in! I may just ask when i drop the engine off! Just looked at price of standard pistons, eeekkkk would be cheaper to machine a set LOL

Can someone look at these and tell me the difference and which one you would recommend?

you wont need a cam that has a powerband up to 6500rpm, the 1098 engines dont like revving over 6000 safely

Not to worry, the cost to machine it to would price it to high for me! Just priced a rake of bit with minisport and it comes in at what i have saved so with my free engine work i should get a good bottom end sorted!

So i took my engine in today and he asked what i wanted! I said just something a bit better than a standard 1098cc. He said no problem il sort it, make a nice little job of that for you. So i answered great do you want me to get any bits as most of its listed on minisports site, he said no problem i know where to get the bits. So god knows how much it will cost and what the end result will be but its underway.

All i know is it may get a piper cam (i think he prefers them), unleaded conversion as he likes to do that, he will strenghen the bottom end, he may bore it, and work on the head. Knowing this fella like i do he will probably graft some 1275 pistons in and machine them to flat tops haha.

Just got to start ebaying so stuff to get the cash to fund it! Anyone here ave a CVH ford engine and need a kent cam LOL

it should be good when its all done, the crank pulley will be fine, are you sticking with the 202 head? the reason that i'm asking is while the engine is in bits you may as well have the block pocketed just incase you decide to use a big valve head in the future.

Well yes i am keeping the head. Main reason being is the engine builder is going to work his magic and see what he can produce. I want to make the most of the engine as it was rather than change it if that makes sence.

The second i mentioned cc'ing it he knew straight away what figure he wanted it to be and knew exactly how to make it right so im letting him have a free run. Might see if he can get me some pics but i think he would be too busy to do it. He is very good at what he does working on ferrari engines and odd ball exotic cars.

He mentioned re-bore, if he was to what do you think he could get it to?? Can you use other pistons! I seem to remember my mates 1400 minispeed engine having ford pistons as he blew one and they sent a replacement!

Next question is what clutch is that on the pic and what one do i want? I dont understand the verto and pre verto. I cant wait, should get my connect engine back towards the end of the week so i will take him the head so it can be complete.

if you can get away without reboring the engine then leave it as std bore as the 1098 engines are long stroke and although it will respond well to an overbore (you can actually bore a 1098 engine out to 1220 if you are brave enough by using hillman imp pistons) the engine will enevitably use a lot of oil (thats why i left my 1098 engine on standard bore).

if it does need reboring then treat +20 as an absolute maximum otherwise you will be pulling the engine back out sooner that you would have hoped......

oh.......and you will need the larger alternator bracket for that block (i used a 1275 one on mine)

use the pre verto clutch (the one thats in the pic) do not lighten the flywheel and a standard clutch and pressure plate will be fine for your engine (competition pressure plates can put a lot of unnecessary stress on the crank)

Haha, well it would be nice to say its a 1220cc as not many have it but if you say it becomes a burner then perhaps not

Did you notice the groove in the clutch pressure plate. Looks like it ran to the rivets at somepoint! The ring gear on that flywheel is ok but the other is ruined so could do with new one! Im guessing its a pre-engaged type? Will use the standard clutch then

I have the larger bracket for an altenator so i will use that.

Cant see him rushing it through but it will come back at somepoint!

i would change that backplate, i was going to mention that it looks a bit marked but i wasnt sure if it was just the way that the photo had turned out, make sure that the clutch face on the flywheel is ok, are you assembling the clutch etc yourself as it has to go together a certain way, if your not sure how it goes then contact me when you are ready to put it all together.
