Should be so careful with minis at high speed.
We were once in an 850 tootling down an empty A1, gradually getting faster and faster. Suddenly I heard a massive bang. :ohno:

You know what had happened?

We had broken the sound barrier.

It is not possible, repeat not possible, to know if and by how much an engine has been re-bored without taking the cylinder head off and measuring the bore diameter accurately either with an internal micrometer or vernier callipers.

That's just so 1960s!! :P

It does 110 mph so it must be a 1380! End of!

No other size Mini is worth considering these days!

That's what both the 'Mini Comics' would have you believe.
The extra 4 bhp of a 1380 will probably give you an extra 2 mph at V-max. And for that a block will be lost for future re-builds.

It's the assumption that said ''comics'' make that if it's a 1380 it must therefore be powerful. Equally a 1275 could be powerful, but it seems to be lost on them.

I know someone who has a 1380 with a 286 scatter cam, twin HS4's, but with a standard 12G940 head with 33.5/29.3 valves. It drives likme a dog!
A 1275 with a 266 or 276 (or equivalent), a well flowed head and 35.6/29.3 valves and an increased CR would go so much better and the block would not be potentially scrap for the future.

Ha, amazing :D Love these threads, although it definitely is missing the guy with the 998 clubby and his girlfriend that could do 120mph. That 1380 sounds very suspicious too with its one wildly offset bore. If I were you I'd get it checked properly to find out what it really is, the story won't really cut it with the insurance company if you have an accident, so you might as well not have insurance as it is. Worth finding out.

I went just off the clock in my 998 once and I'm sure that speedo was very out, but it did have red callipers so who knows...

Don't be so utterly ridiculous, everyone knows that red callipers don't actually increase top speed..... you need red Sparco pedal covers for that!! :P
