Nice new GAZ shocks up front.
I don't usually name cars but I've made an exception here. Welcome VINI
Light weight alternator from a Daihatsu Sirion 40A and only 3.2KG
Just measuring up the alternator. Looks like it might be a bit of a pain to get right.

Alternator all done now. It was a bit of a pain as it was way too small for the Allspeed bracket so I have to mess about quite a bit to get it right. The old Astra alternator weighed 5.3KG and the little jap one was only 3.2KG so hopefully it wont go breaking the bracket. It's still a heavy lump though with the bracket and weighs about 5.4KG total. I fitted it on the car and it was pumping out 35A at idle and 45A at 1500 rpm which is very good.

Well it's just about finished. Went out for the first proper drive in it today and apart from setting up the steering geometry it drove pretty well. It's taken exactly 3 months from start to finish which is a little longer than I expected to be honest but everything seems to be working right first time so I don't think I have any major rework to do.
My fan is a bit of a pain, cuts in at 95 degrees but even though it's rated to cut out again at 90 degrees it doesn't until about 83 degrees and as the car has an 88 degree thermostat it means once the fan cut's in it runs all the time and the engine doesn't really get to hot and sits at about 86 - 88 degrees.

In keeping with the budget theme, we won't mention the slight (HUGE) overspend on the conversion I bought a very nice SPA design microprocessor combined speedo / tacho. I bought it second hand with no wiring loom but it didn't take too long to sus out.
I am very pleased with it, reasonably simple to setup and the speedo is spot in with my GPS. It also calculates standing 1/4 mile times, 0-60 times etc.
