DAY 3:

Righty-O...... Today has been less constructive in mass of things done as i ted to "tinker" at times on little irrelevant details.

But any who..i have taken out the screen, removed the wiper motor, ripped the bulkhead insulation out, removed a seat & started to clean back the scuttle to bare metal.

This is what i,ve done in picture form (because im rubbish at talking about what i,ve done :P).

Took the windscreen out to find some swollen steel,

Happy about the rusting as it isnt as bad as i had expected to be honest:

There's a lot of rust along the length of the scuttle. Now i know money is in short supply but to be honest a full scuttle replacement would be the way forward here.

True & i agree to be honest sonikk, i might try a non-gen as i hear bad about them but i myself have no proof of the fitment.

Mocked up that old repair panel i have but i wont be cutting the scuttle corner out anytime soon as theres bugger all wrong with it (on the surface).

I'l keep digging & make my mind up at some point.

Cheers again sonikk.

No problem, the thing with rust like that you see on the surface will be spreading like wildfire underneath. A non gen scuttle will be cheaper but a pain to make a good fit. But things can be done, it just takes that bit longer.

Ahh yeah i know, hate spot welding panels knowing they'll rot within :mmkay: .

Might try & do the same as "MikaRaymond" has is is on his project mini, a load of Deox Gel & zinc primer should help battle it for a little while longer.

Does anyone know if the surfaces were bare from factory ? i know at the least the spotted areas would be due to the heat hmm.

If you're talking about flutes on the outer sill's its 4 fluted sills you're looking for "as per link", i mentioned the sealed ones as thats what i,ve heard & seen yet i know that it would degrade the inner cavity it seals & also degrade the sale price.

DAY 4

Hello again followers, had a late start on the checkmate today as job hunting takes priority.

So today as planned i clean the nearside bulkhead area up & got to work on the inner wing.

I got a little distracted soon after i finish preping the top mating surface on the inner wing & started removing the shock absorber & mount, soon enough it was off & i had krept over to "quickly do the other side".

Soon enough i found myself butchering the offside flitch panel i was planning on leaving but hey ho progress is progress ;).

So heres a few photos i have taken today:

First up, the bulkhead clean up:

Heres the bulkhead on the offside for reference:

Now here comes the graphic stuff, i hvent yet used any power tools apart from on the nearside wing so excuse the pealed metal haha:

h_zps26905508.jpg

e_zps0d4ca500.jpg

Looks like some work on the inner sill's will be required:

d_zps4c3e1faa.jpg

Heres what came out of the front of the oversill cavity area:

f_zps10ceff8b.jpg

Shocker mounts & mounting point so far  (forgot to picture the nearside sorry):

g_zpsea73e8cb.jpg

Wheels off & up on axle stands to make working on the inner wings easyer:

o_zps5a030fea.jpg

Whilst i was under looking in disgust at the oversill seam weld i thought id snap a picture of the diff area:

Thats your lot for today guys,

Thanks for viewing.

Cheers

Cliff
