I have an Austin Mini 1987,

Will run fine on idle (goes between 500rpm and 1500) but when driving will cut out every 200m. Its like its being starved of something as all electrics stay on fine. We have completely cleaned the Carb and that's fine, What else could it be??

Thanks

Was it fine beforehand or have you changed something...carb / dizzy? If it was previously ok I'd speculate that your fuel pump isn't delivering enough - just sufficient on idle topping up the float bowl / chamber - stress it and it can't keep pace - starves and will refill on start up with no demand on it..... just a theory...

Does your oil stink of fuel? - if so pump diaphragm gone... - (& don't drive it until fixed!)

Possibly points and condenser need changing? The idle seems a tad on the erratic side and that would 'point' to this..

Have you adjusted your points recently?
