Dude, don't you speak 'Black country'?   I've had texts from people  that have taken me hours to decipher!!

had texts from Jane that take hours to decipher but she doesn't understand the concept of predictive text  O_O

Honestly, a few years ago a mate sent me a text, I showed it to 6 people and they didn't understand it either.

"Om er"

Thats was the message, guess what it means?

There are always mistakes being made on here, so it stopped bothering me ages ago. There was one in the thread about cyclists that got to me, but I didn't bring it up because it would have been highly childish when discussing something else to use that as a weapon so to speak.

I do find it slightly concerning listening to the you get generation speaking. I'm not expecting perfect English the whole time, but a generation of people bought up on shortening everything and lazy speech is not a good thing. It's also a little saddening to see some of the random new words that are being added to the Oxford English Dictionary.

Well, that would have been like throwing napalm onto an already erupting volcano but that's a different conversation. I do agree with what you are saying but its about context, on a mini forum, does it matter, probably not a great deal.

Oh I agree which is why I rarely bring any grammatical errors, or use of the wrong words up on here. Or at least try not to.

I agree that professionally, you always need to speak correctly. But I have a concern that many people who speak in the shortened manner will end up doing professionally as well through habit.

When deployed I used to have to check my colleagues work because even to this day she does not know when to use as and has, largely down to her accent I think as when she says them they sound the same. Producing reports that go to some senior officers and not knowing basic words is pretty poor.

I also meant younger generation not you get. Stupid phone >.<

I think I understand as much as the next person that the wrong thing to do is start typing in short predictive text on a forum as that in itself I can find annoying too,

I certainly wouldn't dream of doing it on a purpose. Anyway I must admit that I have used it within a text but only to people that I know will be texting the same way back to me, Again I wouldn't text someone in short if i wasn't familiar with them.

I have always got those sort of words mixed up ever since my school days but I have managed to get on in life without it bothering me, In fact it was something that I had forgotten I do, mixing up words such as There, Their, Where, Were etc,

I don't think I am as bad as I was during my school days but like I say it was something I had completely forgotten about, Or at least taking much less notice off.

Shes not from by my way is she mate lol,

In all fairness I would say you are correct there, like I previously said I no longer take notice if I am or am not doing it,

I would say myself that the accent plays a part as it is a form of slang in it self and has its own way so I understand how this doesn't look good sometimes when portraying across to others but I can assure you I am a likeable chap, Or at least I think I am,

I would do anything for anybody, Within reason that is ;-)

At the end of the day, this is a mini forum, not a job application form!

I think as long as you can be understood the odd incorrect spelling of brake (break) isn't going to cause me to lose sleep! (although something is causing me to and I don't know what).

The forum is full of a diverse array of members from all walks of life, that is what gives it some of its charm! Some of these people aren't very good at spelling!

Sorry James but what was it that was so hard to understand about it, I mean it is simple to work out that a word is spelt wrong and as you said, Even your daughter spells it wrong all the time, This in it self should help you to understand why brought gets used instead of bought.

You can say what ever reason you like now in all fairness but it doesn't take a monkey to see your topic was deliberate and aimed at myself.

And James I've never said you go thru all of my posts, I simply highlighted the fact that you started a thread solely about my spelling,

We could be here all day mate back and forth from behind our computers but I shall be finish off with this.

members can read it for themselves and make there own minds up if they so wish, Me,I forgot all about it after my 3rd cup of tea ;-)
