I thought the Fiat 124 looked great, nice and understated. I can not remeber the last time I saw one of those.

Theres a Wartburg that enters some of the classic rallies up here in the north. I'll post some pictures later, when I have found them.

they did get a few things incorrect, the main and most important who actually invented the "beetle" because its wildly accepted that it was actually Josef Ganz who debuted his "mae kafer" in early 1933, which Hitler saw and made some sketches.

Before Porsche even had the designs on paper Ganz actually had a fully working car on the road with the engine in the rear (albeit not aircooled), swing axle rear suspension, torsion leave front suspension and a central chassis rib with floorpans each side. He said it would be a "car for the people"

The true inspiration for the VW Beetle was the Tatra V570 of 1931, which is attributed to Hans Ledwinka and his son Erich. Tatra sued VW over patents that it beleived to be infringed when Porsche designed the Beetle.

I did chuckle at last nights episode as James talked about missing one of the most important peoples cars of the 60s and 70s and walked straight past a Mini to a Rolls Royce!

Theyre definitely covering the Mini in the next episode.

Also I noticed that the stuff on British microcars was originally Top Gear footage that was meant to be used in series 21.

I just can't see how anybody considers that utter tosh entertainment.

Is it supposed to be Top Gear Lite ™ ???

It'd be interesting to see a car show that actually reviews the cars properly and fairly judges them on their merits. Not whether they can withstand being shot at by a Ross Kemp lookalike with an AK47!

More pathetic Top Gear based drivel.

I don't think the idea of this series is to test cars, it's all about the history, a bit of entertainment thrown in makes it more enjoyable to the masses.

I found the show very interesting, just not the destroying cars bit. Dumbing down :(

fortunatly I had paused the start of this last night so was able to wind past the stupid shooting of the 2CV and Renault 4.   You cant tell me that those milatary versions arnt rare now so why were they destroying them?   top gear drivel which would other than the crushing and shooting of the cars is quite an interesting show.

i'll watch next weeks show for the mini content though, hopefully a mini wont be destroyed in the process, but going from the previous 2 episodes some rare and collectable vehicle will be destroyed :(

Really enjoyed the first episode (with the exception of the needless destruction), but last night's episode was mostly nonsense.  The historical bits are interesting, but too much of last night's episode was dedicated to Top Gear type sh#t; the teenager driving a microcar, the wanton destruction of cars again, the over long race, all took up what seemed like the majority of the hour.  Very poor last night.

I'm looking forward to the new Quentin Wilson & Jodie Kidd show, even if it'll concentrate on cars I'll never be able to afford.

Its only a light entertainment show using cars, i dont see what people are getting so worked up about.

If you didnt like it you could always Celebrity Big Brother on Channel 5...

Exactly.  Are people really that brain dead that they find a set up "race" between a Honda Super Cub and a Copen entertaining?  Every single Top Gear race is staged, every single challenge, blatantly.

Maybe it's just me that would rather have car shows about cars, not about daft middle-aged men acting like teenagers.

The first episode was quite good, but last night's was just boring, and I think they put the shooting in there to try and liven it up a bit, which it didn't.

Can't see how anyone could be entertained by that to be honest.
