TV guide says May reveals what he believes to be the ultimate peoples car in next weeks episode.

Everyone's money on the Mini? James May is a fan remember.

Nah it'll be the "Beetle" if only to annoy Clive (TamworthBay)

I just can't see how anybody considers that utter tosh entertainment.

Is it supposed to be Top Gear Lite ™ ???

It'd be interesting to see a car show that actually reviews the cars properly and fairly judges them on their merits. Not whether they can withstand being shot at by a Ross Kemp lookalike with an AK47!

More pathetic Top Gear based drivel.

Hell, if that man who was firing the bazooka thing had to shoot rabbits to survive he would have starved to death pretty quickly ( couldn,t hit a cows arse with a shovel at two paces ).

they aren't easy things to aim, to get every shot on the car is like getting 180 every time for ten minutes with darts. RPG7s and SK47s are hilariously inaccurate. I was once involved in an AK47 testing session for a section 5 firearms dealer at Sennybridge, in three hundred rounds only a few hit the target at 100yds, by comparison my AR15 will hit a saucer sized target every time at 1000yds. Those things were made cheap not good (still pointless telly though).

VW Type 2, as it used to be known. Most people call the Splitties or Bay Windows, depending what year and model they are. They were built all over the world for over 50 years and the amount of variations rivals the Transit types.

I think he's made his van point - and shown a British / European bias in choosing the Tranny. No major Brit cars so far, so I'm thinking that'll be a theme next week. Question is whether this week's Mini 'n model were teasers or a double bluff?

Toyota Corolla would be a fair choice, you could also make a case for the Suzuki Carry, Willys Jeep 'n even the E type Jag.

He'll do the Mini, Jags and Rollers and say how good they were but then move onto typical Brit/BL bashing and end up with the Fiesta, Cortina, Escort as the best ones I bet (underlining the foreign ownership thing which continues to this day).

The other thing I forgot was the Land Rover. It's been in production for almost 70 years, has been used by everyone from school run mums to the military, it has been the first vehicle to be seen by many in the developing world, and with a bit of maintenance they seam to go on for ever.

such is the dumbing down of mainstream TV that if you take a step back and actually look at the level of technical content and the way it presented, this output is actually for kids. There is hardly any tv left in terms of decent documentaries that is aimed at grown ups. If you want a reminder of how grown up and technical TV used to be, check out some of the Horizon episodes that were produced in the 80s. James May is a modern day Johnny Ball with longer hair. End of rant.

PS come back Michael Rodd, Raymond Baxter and William Wollard, I miss you.

Couldn't agree more. Search on Youtube for 'classic top gear' or 'old top gear' and you'll be entertained for hours.

I'm old enough to remember old top gear and yes we may long for that but no body watched it.

Its why when it became Fifth Gear no body watched that either and it sorta morphed into Top Gear Lite,

Just watched some of this. 1) James May's hair was getting on my nerves and 2) what was that stupid Sierra/Cavalier comparison with the photocopiers? Gone to make a bacon sandwich instead.
