Just picked these up, should be the last panels I have to get but plenty of other stuff to get to still make a big dent in my wallet.
Couldnt resist, just had to have a quick try.

This bankholiday w/e I made a start on the bootlid and door skins.
Plenty of rust in there.
Wire brushed the surface rust and coated with Dinitrol RC900, all good except on the one bottom corner that had to be cut out and new metal welded in.
The same for the doors, mostly surface rust.
The passenger side needs the bottom lip replacing so repair panel ordered from Minispares.
Lots of de-rusting next w/e.

Fantastic work as usual.

As per usual I've got more than one job going at once.
Started to strip down the bonet and de-rust the bits.
Wirebrushed the rust off and used Deox gel to get rid of the stubborn bits. used clingfilm so that it wouldn't dry out.
Anybody else think I've got a bad case of OCD?

Not at all!
This is the kind of detail I want to achieve on my build when I get back on with it

Just read the whole thread/build to date. wow! what a project. it highlights that you never know whats lurking under a nice paint job!
cant believe how much work you have put into this car, its nice seeing another mini being saved.
you make it look so easy

I always knew what was lurking under the paintwork not long after I got her. And I assure you its not easy - my first resto.

I did the same with my bonnet. There was quite a lot of rust behind the strengthening rib, however when I welded it back on I somehow managed to get more of a curve going from side to side on the bonnet! A lot more work followed trying to get it flattened out but it's still up in the middle too much along the grill.

Last w/e derusted all the bonnet bits, zinc primed, welded back together then etch primed the bare metal.
Then ran out of gas so will be finished next w/e.

I've now decided that there are too many jobs on the go at once with bootlid, bonnet doors and fitting the front end panels. So i'm concentrating on getting the doors and bonet finished so I can fit the scuttle and front panels.
The bonnet is about 75% finished so leave that for the time being and time to start on the doors. I had removed the skins off the old doors but they needed some work to get them rust free so last w/e I started on the drivers door.
Upper frame removed, surface rust removed and rusty bits cut out.
Repair panel modified for the recess in the bottom.
Clamped in place.
Welded in.
Welds ground down (I even impressed myself with the finish on this repair).
A bit more rusty bits cut out and new metal welded in.
A couple of coats of primer ready for welding together next w/e.

Fantastic attention to detail going on there, lovely results too. Half way through doing my clubman I started doing any welding on the inside of any panels, frames etc in order to leave as much of the weld bead as possible. If any weld bead was in the way of something then it would get ground down if not then it would be left and cleaned up with a wire cup and rust treated. Kept as much of the sheet metal as possible too instead of grinding most of that away too.

Bit of a slow one this w/e but at least the drivers door frame is back together.

Nice, and just as I dismantled mine, should update my thread at some point bit I've taken the drivers door completely apart as you did and had similar repairs to make, there was an awful lot of rust in between the parts so glad I took inspiration from you again!

I'm still doing things arse about face, I've got to get the doors done before I fit the front panels.
Anyway....... Ive finished the bootlid.
Coat of black on the inside of both the new bootlid and frame.
Both fitted together and 4 plugwelds to hold them together.
Lip folded over, first with a hammer and dolly then finished off with a doorskin tool.
Also finished putting the bonnet back together.
As I'm on holidays for a just over a week from next Friday I'm plan to get both doors finished and reskinned.
