THANK YOU!!!!

good rant man! Im with you all the way! ... the classic mini scene is great for the most part, but there are still too many people about who think that it is their duty to preserve every single mini in its pristine factory spec condition, regardless of what the actual owner wants to do with it.

My car is low, my car is wide, and it will be evn lower and wider when my rebuild is finished... I am also running 13s, but as if that wasn't reckless enough, I went with steelies instead of alloys! just to make sure I give my bearings a really good kick in the teeth for good measure  ... In fact I actually get pleasure from people who come up to me at shows and say "why have you dont that?" .... because I wanted too, thats why  :mrcool:

As others have said, its your car man, do as you please. Shows are filled with identical minis these days so for me its refreshing when someone thinks out of the box for once.

pic of my car for the hell of it....

I am fully in the 10" camp myself, I haven't actually driven a mini on 13's but I used to run 12x6 minilites on low profile tyres and the difference in ride and handling between that and my current 10x6 steels was enormous! My current setup however is on yoko a008s, light steel wheels and with all the usual benefits of 10" wheels and the 12s were heavy (in comparison) and also on falken tyres which are known not to be as good in the wet so that explains some of the improvements I am seeing.

For me the benefits of lower unsprung mass and better suspension travel means the tens suit my cars but if you prefer the look of your larger wheels then go with it! At the end of the day its your car so do with it what you wish and sod everyone elses opinion!

However, the OP now has the answer to his original question regarding why 13" wheels are badly regarded by many and it's a performance issue rather than an appearance one.

Now it is a question of what is important and where he wants the compromise decision to sit - towards performance in terms of road-holding, handling, ride and wet braking, or towards perceived appearance. That's just a personal choice.

I'm surprised that anyone has been so agressive in their assertions about one wheel size or the other. If asked, I would now always reccomend 10's as having changed from 12's to 10's I much prefer the way the car feels and looks. However I would share that view only as advice / opinion and certainly wouldn't slate anyone for fitting 13's. Done well, 13's certainly look cool, though as said I personally wouldn't want to fit them.

Who has been having a go? Folks on here?

I know what size wheels my next road going Mini will have.

and that is?  :shy:

And what has it got to do with you?

Nothing as you are not building it.

But as you asked 10s but before that I need 6 of 8X13 ;)

Not going to lie, I don't like a mini on 13"s, doesn't mean I can't appreciate someone else's hard work. Haters gonna hate and all that, as long as it's done properly, it doesn't matter IMO

literally happens all the time on here mate. Every now and then a post will be put up titled "why do people do this?", or "why has he done that?" which then descends into 27 pages of "this is what is periodically correct", "this is how its supposed to be done", and "This is how I want to do it" .... gets tiring after a while  .... granted there hasn't been a post like that in a while now, but used to be quite frequent.
