Check the condition of the fuel pump inertia kill switch. Known to break down intermittently .

If the flywheel sensor is bad, there would be an erratic or no RPM reading while trying to start with the problem. The 3000 RPM idle sounds like a vacuum leak in the intake system. Check the brake servo booster and hose for leaks, the Thermac valve system and hoses on intake and the of the air filter housing, the hoses on the oil breathers on the cam timing cover and the clutch cover and finally the hoses going to charcoal canister and its purge control valve.
