Great thread pie and i like the fact that your keeping it 98. also ive seen a few people on here that have had a problem with you writing in bold, whats that all about :D

Also im fairly new to minis and even i know that 100ponies is acheiveble as the se7ens are living proof and ive seen one on ebay that was putting out 98...

Please dont make the mini look to god (if u kno what u meen) as i think your mini has the most character on the forum.

LOL cheers minikid.

Choosing a Cam is a lot harder than it sounds. If your looking to get 65bhp look at Jet blicks thread as he has just had his put on the rollers and im sure hes close to that. or something like 65.2 lol
Back to the cam though, if you go too lairty, then driving through traffic will be very hash and lumpy. the most common cams to go for on a 998 are either a 286 or a SW5. but as i said, check out Jet Blicks thread as he has a 998 has reborred the bock (himself with a dremmel :D) put a 12g head on and twin 1" 1/4s on.

As for the people saying "ooh 100bhp isnt possible without turbo or forsed incudtion" as minikid said, the sevens are proof!

I am going for the works look, but i remember reading through a book at a mates house and we saw a works car in red with a white roof, but the bonnet and tops of the wings were black. They also did it on other cars, i think the moggy was one and the heeley3000.
It also had great big lights on the wings but it looked a little silly!!

If your going for Torque, the easiest place to gain it (or loose it) is in the manifold. Either a custom manifold or a performance enhancing one will do best. Twins SU's will improve the breathing of the engine too which in turn will help performance.

Hope this helps some of you.

For a powerful 998..

Personally, I'd go for a 286, SW10, or MSPD ph4 cam!
a Stage4/5 940 head, nicely smoothed pocketest, maybe rebore to +60 or even +80, twin 1.5" SU's or a DOCE40, SC drops (good luck) 1.3 roller rockers (1.5 on select cams) Maniflow LCB...

and to be honest, if its a town driver (daily motor) I'd personally say, if you can put up with the lumpyness, 80 is the more drivable figure...

100 is possable, as long as you don't want to hit the traffic... but to be honest, go for it.

EDIT- I know what u meen about how hard it is to choose a cam, a freind of mine has been thinking for over a month for what cam to use for hes ultimate 1293 turbo engine..

Just under 7 months for my Minikid...

The SW10 is basically a limp willy of a 286, same sort of power levels, if not more torque (as all SW cam are known for) same predictable power, just kinder on emmissions..

well Dog, ur description of a powerful 998 sounds fantastic and expensive. I already have twin SU's (i think 1.25), 997 head made to 998 cooper spec, and i will probably put in an Sw5 cam...but i'll see what Jetblick did....and i don't want to bore it out, i'm going to keep it under 1 Litre...i'll look into the manifold advice, and i'll probably get an RC40 exhaust or a Maniflow exhaust...well thanks for the advice, Dog and pie!

......i'm shooting for around 65....and what is all this talk about "square engines?" what does this mean. and then talking about using 850 cranks what does this do for the engine?.....

Square engine.... Means when the stroke and bore and as close to each other in size as possible, so the piston is moving up and down by the same amount as the bore is wide. I believe this gives you best figures for both power and torque (depending on the rest of the engine set up).

You can see bore/stroke sizes here. A bore/stroke ratio of 100% would be a completely square engine. So you can see, if you use a 1275 and machine a 850 crank to it, you have a bore of 70.61, and a stroke of 68.25 giving you a ratio of 103.4. Or I believe if you use a 998 block and some +80 pistons then you'd get a pretty square engine.

Well, nothings really happened these last few weeks.

The mini is now locked up in a barn a few miles from me.

Bought some Spax rear adjustables off Mini Mad Me, cooper S callipers and Works spotlamp bar should be with me in the next few days.

also saw Lew today and bought one of these for £30;

Now to stop spending all the money and saving up for the work to be done.

Will get some pics up of the spax and the acual exhust tomorrow.
And will also post pics of the callipers and lamp bar when they arrive.
