Why not get a "large bore" (1275) crank ground to a 850 diamantions....
You'll then end up with a proper 1340....

And that WILL beat a revvy 998

NavySeal, no the headlight is still bodged :D AS EVER

I dont want to do a 1275, thats the whole point of this project. Id rather stick with a 998 that i know is reliable and a decent engine, had quite the shock when the head gasket was done to see the impressive engine was in SMINT condition.

Monkey matt, i dont think i have to explain why i write in bold all the time in my project section, if you would like an answer PM me!

And as it says on my profile, i AM the forum pie.

As for insurance, i was messing, im not gonna say to the insurance company "oh yeah its a standard 998 with a stage 1 kit"
Ive declared everything on my insurace and always do/will. Ive even got them to make notes of what make my spottlights, roll cage, harnesses and seats are and got them to send me compies signed as proof.

Anyway as for the project, ive spoken to Minispeed about heads and as NavySeal suggested they too said go for a 12g40 head.

got my harness bolts today so hopefully they will be in by the weekend, i do have 2moro off but might not do them, depending on the wheater.

Firstly congrats on going down the 998 route - all these boys with there big bore's :errr: jeesh

I'd like to make a point to all the non believers - roughly how much power do the race boys get out of their 1380's??? - feel free to correct me if im wrong, and i will stand down, but i believe its round the 120-130bhp mark?? and the old 1275 coopers had 60-65bhp standard? Yeesh???

The power from the old 998 cooper engine was 50-55bhp - so if you can double the power of a 1275, i wouldn't say its unreasonable to double the power of a 998 to 100bhp.

So pie, when you gonna have this on the road?? After destroying my last one, i'm opting for a 998 cooper engine this time, the pre-A+ one with the D-top pistons and 12g295 head. Gonna have the whole thing lightened and balanced, use me ol' 286 cam in it and the 4.1 final drive in a rod change GT c/r gearbox. Though it wont be as fast as yours im guessing, i'm gonna do the work properly this time, so it won't blow up in my face, and it should be a fair bit quicker. I never managed to get it RR'd but my target to beat is 0-60 in a smidge over 11 seconds. That was down from the standard 0-60 of 21 seconds :D, but the 998 cooper has 55bhp standard and 60mph is up in 14 seconds - so it shouldn't be to hard to get lower than 11s :gimme:

oooo - soz for writing an essay, but this kinda stuff puts a smile on my face, something different from the norm - who cares about stupid big bores - only time u'll see me with a big bore is when i can afford to build a 1071 8-port  Also, on a different matter entirley, Worcester retro is gonna be ace soon, when mini's are fixed, and the escorts have been finished and the fezzy's will be out too - its al go-go :w00t::D:D

Sweet, as far as i knows huxleys pretty much finished his bodywork on his mk1, now his just gotta re-spray it, then hes gonna start wedging his vaxhall red top under the bonnet. Andys decided to sell his shell because the floor was in such a state and he didnt want to risk a repair job on a rally car, but he is getting another shell after christmas. Matts engine is being sent off when he gets back i think? Nicks mk1 fezzy stay's untouched pretty much, and last i heard ben had a mk1 fezzy and he had just put a 1.6 z-tech in it :D

Fun times come to those who wait :gimme:

I Screamed The ******** Of Of It

Too right - no point in messing about - tho i dont think my standard bearings took kindley to 8000 rpm :errr: And motorways arn't quite as fun when u gotta do 5000rpm to reach 70mph - he he

Your point is a tad invalid. You only get 130bhp from a 1275 after increasing the engine capacity, which is not what we're doing here. The only other way of getting that power from a 998 is to scream the tits off it, which involves building a 5 figure engine so that it can cope with the high rpm needed to get such a power figure. I don't think Mr Pie is going to be building a 5 figure 998 engine, however I could stand corrected.

Mr Pie, if you want to know about modifying small bore engines look out for some books by Clive Trickey. He did a lot of work with 850s, but the principles are the same.

Oh deary me. Don't get me wrong, because I like the idea of a high revving 998, but you are gonna have to spend about a grand just on a EN40 crank. same again on suitable pistons rings and rods. A grand on a decent pocketed 12g940 + custom advanced dizzy etc etc etc. You're gonna need about 4 or 5 grand to get such a high output from a 998, with very little torque to get the power down. Basically:

THERE IS NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT!

...and 5 grand would get you a 1380 8port built and fitted with 130bhp and 130ilbs torque.
I know what I'd spend my money on.

Guess what books are on the list for Santa :D

Al i know what youd rather spend your money on....either Worming Tablets/treatment or the 998 beast.

I know its gonna cost a lot, but ive looked into it, and i know its something that i have to do now.
