Went and brought my first mini last weekend it’s an 850cc 1987 Austin Mini I drove it away happy as Larry! 40 Miles down the road it started to judder through loss of power and bogging then would cut out managed to limp it home but now I’ve got it home I have replaced the spark plugs, Leads, Distributer cap, Rotor arm and coil pack but still no luck I don’t know where to go with it next as I have hardly any experience with this please help me good people of the mini community?

When you mean wont start, does it turn over?

Also, have you checked the earth strap connection?

Check for a spark

Check for any loose connections, unconnected wires

Check to see how dirty your air filter is

Make sure there isn't a blockage in your float chamber and fuel lines

Check the alternator is working fine

Make sure that your choke and accelerator cable is working properly

Make sure that your plug leads are all correctly connected

Check that your carb jet isn't stuck

Make sure there isn't any moisture in or around the distributor

Check the battery's voltage

Not too sure about the carb will have to have a look

Alternator and wiring are fine from what I can see

And I made sure the leads where all properly on when changing them

It's a large threaded wire near to the engine steady:

Haven't got a picture myself.

I don't know if the location varies depending on the model, but if you look for a large threaded wire like the one in the picture then you'll just need to follow it.

Then check the boot's earth connection too

Standard Points or converted to electronic ignition?

If points, have you checked to make sure they are correctly adjusted/gapped and checked the condenser.

check damper on top of carb

black screw down plastic cap on top of carb

unscrew and check it has oil

look inside it has another tube that one needs to be nigh full with oil.

only use 3 in one or light machine oil anything heavier will bog engine down
