While awaiting the new floor to turn up I thought id start the a-post quarter panels. There seems to be different ones around when I've looked on the net, some seem to have a inner panel, but mine just has the outer one with 2 brackets for the door hinge welded to the A-post.
Ive taken both off, they were the original panels, but unfortunately could not be saved.
I started with the drivers side. had to do a small repair to the A-post.

Then made a start on the passenger side, on this side the bottom hinge support bracket has rusted away, I'm not sure if you can buy these so i may have to make one.

Again another small repair will be needed to the A-post.

On further inspection Ive decided to replace the seat crossmember, it didn't look too bad till I took the floor off the underside of it, the flange along the front was badly corroded.
So once this is replaced ill carry on with the floor.

Nice work!
I would unscrew the damper brackets on the inner wings before starting any repairs on them. I guess you will find the red demon there also :)

Thanks for the info, Ill have a look at them.

so started the repair of the inner wings

so just a few bits of corrosion where the front valence attaches, and some damage on the drivers side.
I removed the damper brackets from the inner wings, and the inner wings had no corrosion, but the brackets were full of rust And of course half of the screws snapped off, so im going to put some new screws in and weld the brackets to the inner wing. just to be doubly sure that they are secure.
Next job was to fit the bonnet, I had to make a hinge bracket for the bonnet, ive fitted the bonnet so that I can fit the wings and front valence

had to butcher it, but doesn't fit, so going to buy a heritage panel and try again.

so will wait and see how the heritage panel fits on the passenger side, if its good I might buy another for the drivers side.

so I've cleaned and painted the front subframe. The suspension cones are still in place, I'm just waiting for a compression tool, I'll take them out and check them once I have the tool.

Then painted the inner wings

After that I removed the frame from the engine bay, then it took me 3 hours to remove the brake and clutch reservoirs, the split pins didn't want to come out , but got there eventually. now just need to remove the other bits so that I can clean and paint the engine bay.

so I've receive the compression tool, so now I took off the front suspension cones, cleaned and re-greased the the top shafts and fitted them back on to the front subframe. Then I put the subframe back on the front of the car, I was a little worried that it might not fit after replacing the front end, But got away with it and it fitted fine.

Then I realised that I've not fitted the steering rack, so according to the manual I have to drop the front subframe to fit the steering rack. ( typical) I should start reading the Manual.
