That's how they got us all - you didn't win a car, you won an engineering apprenticeship!

Just a minor update on this unwanted apprenticeship. ![]()
The thing is almost all back together as an engine/gearbox.
The new radiator arrived today so that's another item off the tick-list.
We are going from this sorry mess :

To this much nicer version.
It only needed a +20 rebore to 1293 but all the other stuff sure adds up.
I was pleased to find 2 thou' crank end-float, 4 thou' Evo1 cam end float, 5 thou' transfer gear end float.
Diff pin was on its way out (hardening failed) so a X-pin diff was put in, central oil pickup, new clutch etc.
If the weather is OK it might get back in the car this weekend. ![]()

OK, radiator fitted, now looking almost ready to drop into the engine bay and put the ancillary bits on. ![]()

Job done! Worst bit was getting the engine-mount bolts bag in their holes.
I will follow up with fitting the ancillary items and wiring up as the weather permits over the next few days.

Only if I sit in the seat and make all the noises. ![]()
It will be a few days before I get everything fitted back on and wired up (weather's not looking great).
Won't be too long though. ![]()

It's getting closer. ![]()
Today was all about putting the inlet/exhaust headers on, the carb and the tarted-up alternator.
If it is not raining tomorrow I may risk life & limb and lie under the car to attach the exhaust system back on and attach the lower engine steady to the gearbox.
Then it's the dizzy and the brake servo and bleed the brakes.
Plenty to do still.

Great work! Have a read of this for running in a new engine if you haven't already/ didn't know (and also the cam needs bedding in) https://www.calverst...in-new-engines/

Well done, I'm always a bit nervous for the first key turn after a rebuild.
And just in time for the summer.

Well I am now 107 miles into my "running in" period with no issues so far except an oil-leak (don't laugh).
Here in Essex it is not so easy to do varied speed running in because there's always some little 'oik in a "hot hatch" 6" off your rear bumper pushing you along.
Today's little jaunt included a trip to the MOT tester.
It passed with no advisories. ![]()

You've got great roads for running in around Basildon, up lower Dunton road, through Burstead, on to Billericay, onto the Hanningfields and loop back home, these roads include nice long inclines where you can put load into the engine, loads of T junctions etc. I presume you are using running in oil at the moment?

In a few months our club does it's annual London to Southend run, if it's not run in by then this will certainly help and it's also alot of fun https://www.essexcla...icles.co.uk/l2s

Hi Shooter,
I don't know that area at all, but I can give it a good looking at for sure. Thanks for the recommend.
What I have been doing is sneaking out early in the mornings at the weekend and doing a 40 mile loop from home to J30 of the M25 (A13) then up the M25 to J29 and then back down the A127 to the A130 and home; yes, it is a bit boring but it's getting the miles done.
200 miles of running in so far and yes with "Running In" oil. ![]()

How true any of that is I don't know but it's what I was told when I run my engine in. Good luck
