1.6 is the way forwards... apart from the daily re-builds and week long block lifespan :( >_<

Too right!! But then this is the wrong section for those engines, you need to be looking in the Projects section named 'Minis with engines for men' aka Non-Mini engined. ;)

Got to admit, after my trip to Newquey, with a full Van, and passenger, the old 998 stuggles!! and the over heating problem grrrr fecking thing....
I got VERY tempted to shove a K-Series into it... But I am drawing plans atm, to fit a small front mounted rad (old heater matrix) plumb it in, and fit a Mk5 inner wing fan (which I've been given) going over the orginal rad... so in affect, I'll have 2 rads, one sat up front, which will only be any good at speed, whereas the other will be there as the normal rad is....

But no, it has to be an A-Series, the Van is too rare, too speshul to ruin like that! - after all, the misses will kill me if I did it to the Van...

But for next years rivi run, hes going to be going over the fence, and dressing up... more to come of that yet :(

Dog, rather than messing around with the heater matrix and all the associated pipeworkery, it'd be much better to fit a new high capacity water pump (with cast impellor) and 2-core radiator, with new coolant and a flush through. That'd solve your overheating straight away and save you having to wire in the mk5 fan etc. Never had any issues with that set-up on my 1293 should be fine for a 998 :(

Looking good by the way! I saw it loads at Riv Run but didn't actually realise it was yours.

Only problem is Tom, I've done all that already!
I spent about £130 getting to the way it is now.... Next idea is the try more anti-freeze, as I am running a 30/70 mix atm, so might strenthen it to 50/50...

And Tom, thanks for stopping behind me on the motorway - just in case I broke down, but I was waiting for someone.....

Oh right, sounds as if it could be something a bit more complex then, possibly mixture? timing? Thermostat? Just to state the obvious if you haven't already sorted it all!

No worries about stopping, never like to see a Mini stopped on the hard shoulder so I always stop if I can! I realised you were waiting after you'd been stopped for a minute and didn't get out :( There were a few on the actual Riv Run as well but they were all terminal things like fans shredded and stuff.

Well I replaced the 'stat when it was all apart...

I think the next thing it can be is timing and tuning... I know its slightly rich, but I see it a bit pointless getting a Rolling Road sess, as the 1380 will be going in soon....

its running lean which makes an engine burn hot, melting pistons etc

neil said it was the design of the pressed grill not giving good/adiquate air flow

Well I broke him!!

Fitted an oil pressure gauge, and I tapped the dizzy - moving it off whre it was... now I think the point are loose, and thus not giving the correct spark...

So I've got that to fix, and I'm tempted to get another rear subframe to build up, as half the stuff off the one that on him now, needs replacing....

What are the symptoms?! If you were running lean (thus overheating) you could have finally blown a hole in a piston.

Yeh I'm still in contact via MSN, and mobile...

I might of finally blown a hole, who knows... the symptoms are, VERY VERY loud pinking, reluctant to rev - well when it was running... tried starting it yesterday, and the darn thing turns over ok, goes to fire, but nothing...

I'm going to swap the dizzy's over, as I have a recon'd leccy one in the shed, shove it on, if I still have problems, then off comes the head... If it all proves ok, and while I am there, I might shove some pockets into the block, and shove my '940 head on, then off to rollers at some point....

you have a piston down.

Yeh - tis something I thought about getting when I was tweaking the dizzy to get it to start...
It seems to run ok, but its VERY lumpy (I do have a video I need to up load) the compressed gases, are coming back though the carb! I had a lick of flame now n then!!

All this because the dizzy moved less than half an inch!!!!
