right, over the weekend ive been thinking, best way about getting performance out of my car is to drop in a new one however this is no fun. so small bore is gunna be the way to go. 80 thou on ab 850 crank if its posible.

so

66.58 (+80) mm bore and a 68.26 (850) crank makes it a 951. and a 97.5 ratio, getting very close to being square me thinks

or if i can get +100 thou i can bring it too 965 and a ratio of 98.2 percent.

i think the next stage up from that would be a 1071 but i dont want to build a big bore even tho its pretty dammed close as it is and would enable to to run bigger valves without the silly ofset.

and its going to stay n/a bring on the weber! or bike carbs

i'm sure you can only get to +.060 on a small bore block much more than that and you'd be at 1275 size anyway so why not just start there and save yourself a bundle of engineering costs, risk and pottential disaster!!!

not quite matt. hes just insane.....lol a +80 brings it out to 66.58 mm bore basicly makes it a ratio of 97% square (useing a 850 crank), aprently in australia there is a guy whos doing +100 just gotta try and find a way of contacting him thats makes it 67.08. 98% square (useing a 850 crank) but i think ive settled for the +80 as i know i can get them. just gotta get all the little bits to fit a 850 crank into a 998 and get the 850 crank lol

being square is more efficient but don't be fooled into thinking that a square litre will be better than a standard 1275...

power advantage comes from getting as much fuel to burn as possible which means good free airflow (induction, head and exhaust) and as little friction through the bottom end as possible.....

Read vizards book again.... all the work has already been done, you just need to research it rather than spending time and money on chasing a pipe dream!!!!

Get yourself on the road with a standard car and standard engine first... lots of time for building engines once you have your licence!!!!!!

i am dont worry, i was thinking more very short throw stroke and bigger bore but getting it as square as posible is just a bonus to be honest.

i think i may have to take big gavs advice on this one. i may build a 1380 as i think i may get this shell sorted as a run around then get a better shell and use that as my road racer project.

gunna be an expensive trip to curley tho ;D boot floor, roof, and arches.

also kinda means i need to get a full roll cage, so ill put the rear one i got from big gav in my current shell.

ive decided on some wheels also, im going for force racing 10 inch ones, as i can put them over my 8.4 inch 2 pots, i think i may stick with two pots as opposed to changeing to the metro varity, as the piston area is pretty much the same aprently, so your only reduceing wear on the pads. i cant see the point of haveing a vented disk if im gunna be slamming on the brakes from silly speeds anyway like 100 plus. i dont see myself doing that often enought to warrent the extra money, i need to speak to minispeed about the 6 pot, ill only get some if the piston size is bigger.

got the great job of running brake lines at some point too....

im gunna ditch my seats, well sell em in favor of something a little more race inspired, not only do they not fit properly but there abit bulky .

flattened back the roof again, sealed it, so im gunna run over it again sometime in the week and spray it up in primer for the time being.

Like idea of a stonking small bore... but if its a road car, you'll have to spend a small fortune on a decent head gasket!
Oh and an 850 crank in a 998, is going to require custom made thrust bearings.

ditched the 998 idea now. pretty much for that reason there, im thinking of getting a big block, getting it bored out to 73.5 and makeing the stroke 76ish mm same as the 998.

http://www.minispare....aspx?pid=37565

would it be cheaper to get the black one and get it machined down tho?

More money than sense comes to mind to be honest!

Why do you want a short stoke?

dude, it's your project, whatever you choose,.. i'll look forward to seeing it. you want short stroke, do it :sneaky:

short strokes are fun, can be plenty powerful enough and they drive totally different to 1275's,.. that's the attraction in them.
