well ive decided that due to the hinge panel being filled with expanding foam (no joke) and ther being lots of holes in it, also directly in the centre of the bottem of the wind screen there is some rust just below, so i decided the only way to deal with it is to replace...

started to sand the roof down to a solid base, now the order of colour goes

black
grey (primer)
yellow
grey (primer)
brown (orginal colour)
grey (primer)

some people are just too lazy!
