But its one of the 40 uses for WD40 - to dispurse moisture and dampness....

I was thinking there might of been a bit of condanstiaion in the dizzy, which not allowing it to make full contact to fire the old boy up.

Yes it would appear it is Mike  And my patience ran out about 5 hours ago :ermm:|

Funnily enough, we checked the dizzy for problems. Along with bloody well everything else :)

hey

did you get minty running today? ive still got to put a 'cleaned' airfilter on my little beastie. doesnt look very clean. i was expecting to see all kinds of C**p floating away in the water but no.

i did find an old problem with the spark plug/lead tho as mine runs on 3 cylinders too now. next time he's not behaving, take the lead off the cylinder that isnt firing and slowly move it towards and on the plug. if you find that it fire nicely with hovering the lead just over the end of the plug, you got what i got, only thing is i dont know how to fix what i got lol. as i said i had this problem before on 2 cylinders, i spent months trying to find a problem until i found it, then all of a sudden it corrected itself and i got use of the full engine :)

good luck

Yeah we did that yesterday, taking each spark plug off to listen to the engine, expecting one of them to make no difference... But they all made a difference :) I wonder if one had a bad connection and taking them off and putting them back on made the connection again... I don't know, it was so random :ermm:

Off to the rents in a mo, see if it starts this time...... Will report back later today (though not much later if it doesn't start!)

the head gasket may have gone between cylinders. it can still be firing on 4, but low on compression, so the removing plug leads will make a difference. it can also seal up and run a bit better when warm. hope it's not this though.

Have you checked for damp? :)

ps if it is the headgasket between cylinders, it wont mix oil and water as it sometimes can with headgasket failure, and it will also appear rich if measure at the exhaust, as it not burning fuel properly

Oh goodness, I hope it isn't that! Don't want to have to take my engine apart :D

It took a min to start today (which I think is due to a poor spark) but then it started and ran fine, straight away :xxx:

Also got me to Reading and back, with a bit of driving in between, we had all sorts of driving conditions and quite frankly he took it all like a true champ! If it was the head gasket could it be intermittent like that? ie not be right one day but absolutely fine (excellent in fact) the next?

Not head gasket...

Maybe he just had on offday, and wanted to ring in sick? :D

Hmm yeah, yesterday I would be more willing to believe a head gasket problem, but today he was actually driving the best he ever has, after Pete played with the timing and mixture/idle screws, and had the emissions sorted!

Had a very enjoyable day :xxx: I was even thinking I could handle driving this every day! Even the heater was working (and not leaking)! :) After I put some bars leaks in yesterday... Yet to see if the radiator is still leaking though (find that out next weekend)

Despite driving it all day, I still managed to nearly miss 3rd gear a few times on the way home forgetting it was over on the right, not in the middle as it is on the Festa :D ... And it felt weird getting back in the Festa in the evening to come home - so different!

mine did somin a bit like this the other day. Tried to start it at my mates and it was asif it was getting no spark atall. Had a look at the coil, pulled the main HT lead out, gave myself a HUUUUGGGGEEEEEEE electric shock, put it back in, and it fired straight up... strange thing.

Dodgy leads perhaps... This was something Pete suggested as a possible reason for mine playing up - as he got a bit of a shock off one of the leads yesterday :D
