.....Also have just realised I'm on holiday then :shifty:

Dear God I'm forgetful! :P

Hopefully Dad will be able to take it in, ohhhh I'm so stoooopid!

Lol I haven't even finished painting (or indeed prepping) the cage yet, I think I'm kind of putting things on hold til after the MOT. Then it should be full steam ahead, when I'm not at work!

Also, the bit I have painted is black (most of it's in grey primer) but I'm wondering now if that's a good idea, because my interior plans have changed and there will be no black! Colour coding it to the car could be difficult because it's metallic paint, and the only other option is cream/off-white or brown :shifty: lol

Also, will probably buy a stage 1 kit at MITP if it'll fit in the mini but won't fit it til after the MOT just in case!

MITP is at Santa Pod near Northampton on Sat 18th - Sun 19th August. I don't know who you can jump in with, I have a passenger already so not me I'm afraid! There are lots of us going though so I'm sure somebody can - or you could dart up in the Escort?

Sooooo!

Today despite the rubbish weather forecast it stayed dry for most of the day so we got a few bits done on the wee mini :P

First things first - the rust on the wheel arches needed sorting (many pages ago, following removal of plastic ones)

A pretty slap-dash job: screwdriver, rust treating goo, bit of chemical metal in the hole, quick coat of primer, then paint (no lacquer - we don't have any!) all with sanding in between each stage :ermm:

Also - we had problems when we took the arches off in that some of the rivets didn't actually come out :ermm: so the stuck ones have been flatted or at least smoothed and painted over, and the holes from the ones that did come out filled with shiny new rivets and painted to match the car. If they'd all been new rivets I'd have left them silver, they actually looked quite smart!

Here's a before and after of each side (one or 2 rivets can be seen here):

Not bad for my first spray job :xxx: And the front of the car looks much smarter with the rust gone :P :

Then the other job of the day was to attach my new chrome sill/arch trim........ :xxx:

It's really badly kinked where it had to bend the wrong way - hot water was rubbish and hair drier was also rubbish so dad resorted to a hot air paint stripper :ermm: Which kind of worked but kind of melted the stuff :xxx: lol. Looks fine from a distance but it's pretty rough really. If I ever want the mini looking concours I'll have to shell out for the genuine stuff but for now with all it's touchups etc etc I can live with a rubbishy bit of trim!

Here's some final pics of how he stands with his new trim and de-rusted arches (and rhubarbed front suspension and passenger door!):

There was one other, small, problem  I thought the TMF stickers were internal :xxx: They're not :P

And I'm not sticking things to the outside or I'll never get them off :dozing: So I've stuck them to the parcel shelf:

He's pretty much ready for MITP now :errr:

Just waiting on the rear bench cover from Emalee... *waits* :ermm:

Nobody has commented on my spraying efforts! :xxx: I thought I'd done quite well - you can see in the before right arch where the previous owner had already painted over rust previously - I'm pretty sure I did better than that :xxx:
