I made up removable hose brackets for my wagon so I can drop the subby without having to split the brake lines :D Just an idea since you'll be getting creative anyway.

That cream crackered alloy doesn't look like a stress fracture to me either

Might be worth getting a second opinion off somebody who really knows what they're talking about - you might get a freebie off Z Cars.

Whatever you do on the rad issue, do not, as people are suggesting think that heater matrix's used as radiators does anything usefull at all. I had tried it on my minus, they dont do anything more than a degree or two per unit and I found out why when I removed it and poured the water into a measuring jug. They only hold 27cl of water!

Jammy - Heres my tuppence worth:
Enlarge the holes behind the grill by getting rid of this material:

Leaving two bars in the middle to fit quick release grill buttons. Mount your long F3 rad behind the grill and another smaller one in line on gearbox side if the long one isn't man enough, which it should be.

Even with removing that material, and changing to a smaller starter motor, and a Nippon Denso alternator, and distributorless ignition, and a remote oil filter, I'd still have to have the radiator sticking out the grill by a good inch. And it would still be touch and go whether I'd get a fan behind/in front of it.

Stig told me a mate of his has a load of motorbike rads, some of which he said I should be able to get around my clutch cover, but I'm looking this weekend at mounting my two F3 rads up in the rear subframe, and then just run some lines to the back.

I've also got to wire up the engine (hopefully this weekend), and perhaps wire up my dash, and I should have some different brakes coming on Tuesday!

Scrap my idea about putting them up into the rear subframe! Because of the lower boot floor, the battery box and the exhaust backbox theres about enough space for a small cereal box, about 2/3rds of an MPi rad! ;)

Possibly. Not above the slam panel, but at least behind it. Then possibly a couple of fans next in front of the sparkies, next to the alternator.

Well, I believe I've secured a last minute ticket for L2B thanks to a very special person. I won't name names, but you know who you are! :D

With that in mind it seems I'm going to have to get this bloody Mini done now! Unfortunately I'm really busy at work currently, which has seen me now enter my third consecutive 7 day working week, plus overtime in the evenings. I'll have lots of money in the summer, but no time now when I need it!

Despite this, I managed to get an hour of work in tonight before it got dark, cold and I was starving for some dinner. Just basically tidied up the engine loom a touch, plugged in the alternator, fitted the horn, dizzy cap, HT leads and coil. Then made a list of everything I need to do:
  • Wire up engine
  • Fit carb after buying a fitting correct needle
  • Fit thermostat and housing
  • Fit oil filter housing properly
  • Fit heater tap
  • Fit dizzy cap, HT leads and coil
  • Mount washer bottle
  • Fit front brake pipes
  • Change front brake calipers
  • Get shorter fan pulley bolts
  • Fit exhaust (basically just the link pipe into the Y piece)
  • Fit gear linkage
  • Setup suspension angles
  • Fit engine steadies (might need to buy the one that bolts to the water pump)
  • Fit rear roll cage (needs modifying)
  • Fit harnesses
  • Modify drivers seat subframe
  • Fit DD2 lite
  • Sort out doors (big job)
  • Work out where radiator is going and plumb in
  • Fit arches
  • Change headlights
  • Fit battery
  • Mount solenoid
See, not much left to do!

Changed the headlights, didn't realise the old ones were H4s, but the reflector bulbs were quite rusty, so they had to be changed. Fitted the clutch slave spring, hadn't realised that wasn't on. Then fitted my KAD engine steady. I think the subframe causes the engine to lean back a touch, as the steady was too long. So I had to take the rose joints out and cut a few threads off each one, and even with the joints wound all the way into the steady I still had to pull the engine forward a touch. Still, its on now!

Also mounted the washer bottle on one of the clutch housing bolts, but then that ruins any ideas of putting a radiator on that side....

Got the first of two packages I should get this week, and this one was the biggy! :) When preston pill put his 6 pots up for sale it would have been rude of me to have not bought them! Not only do I get more pub points (most importantly), but it also allows me to fit as big a brakes as I can under 10" wheels and still have a decent amount of clearance. Having now fitted them over 8.4" disks, they do fit, but the clearances are very tight. I think when I get more time I'll take things apart and get the disks turned down to about 8.2".

Also had a bit of a scare when I fitted one of the caliper retaining bolts and it started to just spin. Having taken it back out again I realised it was a few mm smaller than the other bolts. I fitted the other bolt for that side and it tightened up nicely, so I've since changed the bolt for a spare. For a few minutes I thought the thread in the hub had gone and that I'd have to take apart the hub assembly and change it!! :mrcool:

Anyway, here's the p0rn!

The inner wing is a bit of a problem, mainly because thats where the height is taken from, so they aren't as tall as normal, and also because the coilovers encroach into them a touch.

I think at the moment I'm just going to slap it into the boot, hopefully there will be enough air going through it. I just happen to have a Spal fan I can put in front of the rad to get the air shifting.

what about a long thin one (or 2 linked in series) one up front where ever space may lie and another where other rad would but as high as possible to allow for sus' movment?

if you put it in the boot (cut out floor and holes in boot i assume?) can you replace that in the future with a Cf kinda jobbie? and obviously new boot floor
