I took last Thursday/Friday off work. In part because it was my birthday on the Thursday, but also so I could have 5 days off work (sorely needed) and get some real progress on Rusty!
Started off by going down the scrappy and getting a radiator from a Cinquicento Mk1. Nice and small, perfect for mounting in the boot! Got it home and started wondering, with the dizzy and alternator out the way I could probably get it behind the grill, which would really suit me because I didn't want to cut out the bootfloor!
Wired up the ETB dash to +12V and an earth, it fired up with its flashy LEDs and stuff!

Started connecting other things, indicator lights, full beam warning light, fog light warning light, all worked!

So far I've got indicators, oil pressure, main beam, fog light, tacho, voltage, fuel, low battery voltage all connected up. Have since up a few brackets and attached it to the dash rails. Its a very basic method of fixing, and looks pretty crude, but its only temporary and I've used wingnuts so I can take it with me if I'm ever parking in da' hood!

Was then messing about with the carb, not sure why to be honest (can't remember), but ending up snapping the bolt that goes into the block on the engine steady.

I thought something was going to give, that engine steady was always going to be stressed because the stupid Z Cars subframe pushes the engine back! Got a repair bracket through today from Minispares. Perfect solution!

Looked at the radiator solution again. Found a Nippon Denso alternator in the garage, grinded a bit off one of the mounting lugs, made it fit. Its a bit smaller than regular Mini item, and gives me a touch more space at the front. My Cinqy rad stil won't fit though, and I'd definitely need to get rid of the dizzy to get a fan behind it. I pick out one of my F3 rads and realise I've got just enough room in front of the cylinder head, above the alternator, to fit it, and then have two computer fans above the distributor. Cut a few big holes in the front of the bonnet and it might just work....
I finish up by giving the inside a good clean out and hover. It was quite a trickle of water down the road when I unbolted the seat and let the water drain out!

About an inch deep of months old, rusty water! Didn't look too shabby after it was all cleaned and certainly gave me a bit of a boost!
