what happened to the good old days when the old bill had to stop you to inform you that you had been nicked!
If you got away you had to leave the car in the garage for a week other wise they always took a good look at your car the next time out.
when they stopped you they always started with these words "is this your car sir?" and the answer was mostly "no I just nicked it cuntstable"
which they never found funny.
about 190 kph at hockenheim just in case plods learnt to read.

119 on a rolling road and I was helping to push :proud:

In the old days the police were always polite and got their point across without sarcasm. Except a couple of young officers in a Panda Morris Minor in Whiteladies Road, Bristol one summer's afternoon in 1967 who began with "What's the hurry, sonny?" and it all went downhill from there.

I'm lucky enough to have driven long ago when the sign with a white circle and a black diagonal stripe usually found at the edge of town meant end of speed limit :proud:

Most of the 1275 engines I have built could manage just over 100mph and the 998 motors between 85 and 95 whatever diff I was using. It didn't matter whether high or low diff the max speed was about the same, in fact a 3.6 diff seemed to suit the smaller engines better and they were quicker all round than higher geared cars, 1275 0r smaller.
On the track the revs went up and the gearing went down if you wanted to get it flat out down the long straights, a standard 998 by the way wont rev much above 5500 and that only in first and second, in top your looking at between 4000 and 5000 depending on the gearing. :proud:

Hmmm from reading all these replies about 998's and there top speeds mine is way different, ive had mine off the clock (100mph) on a flat and will easily do 90 dont suppose its to do with the fact i run a remote box off a cooper engine and 10's?

in theory if the V8 will rev to 5,500 rpm in top gear, i should get a reasonable 127mph, not had it much over 85 so far.

Clubby estate struggles to get to 70 (and thats down hill), going for a rolling road tune up next week, so should be better, i know the mixture is all wrong.

my old 1275GT(1380) would do 100 no probs with 4 bods in it

What spec 998 is that then :)
Must be about 60 bhp with a low diff ( 3.44 or less ) at a guess :ermm:

No joke its a bog standard 998 got it off a neighbour after my cooper engine which the box was originally attached too became porous, not sure of the diff, the power was 38 bhp when i had it on the rollers not sure if that was at the wheels or fly wheel, but was told its about right for a fairly standard 998.....

I want to rebuild my cooper loved that engine soooo much +20 thou, HC piston's, lightened flywheel, 256 cam, cooper s crank, port and polished cooper head....was mint, but ended up using more oil than i did fuel...usually about 5 litres a week and that was only doing about 80 miles....

Rolling road it maxed out at 118mph

On the private test track, a GPS'd 92mph ... and that's running a 1330 on 13"s with a 3.1 diff :)
