So I've just been out and done a couple of little jobs; checked all the fluid levels (brake, oil, washer, radiator, carb dashpot etc..) pumped all the tires up to the same level, put the correct numberplate on, given her a really soapy warm wash & hoovered/polished the interior, cleaned the windows etc..

Can't really do much else now apart from cross my fingers, only concern is bodywork ;)

Bad news I'm afraid

Failed quite badly apparently, haven't seen the MOT sheet yet 'cause Dad took her in today & isn't home yet, gave him a ring & it's supposedly mostly bodywork.. I've got another 2 weeks of driving her until the MOT runs out & then she'll be off the road, luckily this ties in with the Garage being ready, well a couple of weeks after.. but I didn't expect her to pass so I'm not that gutted, just gotta decide where to start!

I'll have a look at the MOT sheet but the idea of a full strip down seems appealing, who knows. I'll update later with the list of fails :P

Nearside rear boot (boot floor/rear panel) Subframe mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded.

Offside rear boot (boot floor/rear panel) Subframe mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded.

Nearside front lower (inner sill) Seat belt anchorage prescribed area is excessively corroded.

Nearside front Brake hose ferrule excessively corroded.

Offside front Brake hose ferrule excessively corroded.

Offside rear Brake hose ferrule excessively corroded.

Nearside rear Brake hose ferrule excessively corroded.

Offside front (floor) Subframe mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded.

Rear Exhaust mounting missing.

Parking brake efficiency below requirements (14%)

& one advisory,

Nearside front sill corroded.

So overall not that many things, the bits I've highlighted are an easy fix.. spent a couple of days doing that, but aside from that it's all bodywork. I'm glad the rest is okay (engine, suspension, subframes, brakes..) but I think once the garage is up and ready to use it'll be up on axle stands, rear subframe out.. new boot floor & rear valence, give it a coat of black hammerite inside, but yeah I've just gotta get cracking, guess I've got myself a proper mini project now

That sucks mate, atleast it was expected.

Full strip downs are appealing but beware that you find lots of nasties and stuff you generally want to upgrade whislt you can when there stripped, thats why mines basically all new parts near enough.

I don't mean a full strip down, but it'll just as close.. considering I've got both the front & rear end to sort out, the middle bit is okay :P

For instance if I'm doing the boot I'd strip everything out, lights, bumper, fuel tank, put it up on axle stands & drop the rear subframe out, new boot floor & rear valence, black hammerite the inside, clean the inside of the wheel arches back to bare metal, stone chip them, rebuild the subframe etc..

Excited

Yeah just a good coat of black hammerite, might even end up stonechipping it in there.. bit more protection & I'd be going for a boot board anyway so it won't be visible.

Good luck! bought my car last april thought it was'nt to bad at the back ....... nine months later boot floor, valence, closer panels both sides, heel board, both arches and lower rear panel and newly rebuilt subframe waiting to be fitted!!!!! OH well the joys of mini ownership.
Andy
