Coming on nicely. Missed your birthday  Happy late birthday anyway.

You have great taste, Especially that engine! It looks awesome with the new/cleaned bits and the green

I bought that minimag for the clutch bit too. I want Keith calver's brain or whatever he's called, sap all of the mini knowledge out of it :dontgetit: And share some of it with you of course.

You can get the shaft out of the upper arm without the cone cpmpressor. If you get the rubber bump stop out from under the arm. It takes "most of the pressure off". The shaft should tap ot then. The cone compressor makes it easier but it can be done without it. You can also make a cone compressor from a threaded rod that will get the job done.

As said, you'll need a cone compressor to get the top arm out. To get the driveshafts, cut the ties holding the gator on the pot joint, take the joint off and the shaft just pulls out the frame. Bottom arm you have to undo the bolt on the end of the pin, slide it all to the front then spend hours wrestling and cursing to get the bushes off the pin =]

As for sandblasting the timing case, I'd get yourself a wire wheel for the grinder and clean it up yourself. I used plastikote project paint on all my engine bits, worked a treat. And its a better finish, being a spray.

Thanks for that Minivanman, I'll save those jobs until Sunday. Packaged turned up from Minispares, which is full of shiny bits, so I'll go and put them on the engine now 'cause they don't require me getting grubby.

So these parts turned up today

Posted Image

Rocker cover with cap, spark plugs, braided oil pipe, union for the pressure pipe in block, oil gauge 't' piece & domed washers for the rocker cover 'cause I forgot them from the last order

Posted Image

Arty shot, this rocker cover is perfect, not too polished & shiny so it looks used but clean, love it =]

Posted Image

Everything on :D

Posted Image

Not too sure if I've done this right though.. the spade terminal for the oil pressure switch isn't fully on, simply because it needs to be cleaned up, but I couldn't screw the 't' piece all the way in, quite a bit of resistance, does it need to be all the way in? or just sit there nice & tightly?

Got a feeling its a tapered thread, so as long as its tight in there its ok. Don't overtighten it or you'll strip it.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Yup tapered thread, they don't go all the way in but still seal.

Ahh, I always thought it was just my engine that had a funny thread in the oil take off

If you haven't already got the upper arm shafts out yet, They will come out fairly easy without having to compress the cone. If they don't then the shaft is most likely rusty. One of mine was (grease nipple was blocked) and it needed an absolute belting to get it out.

That rocker cover is puuurfect too, It really looks good.

Thanks guys >_<

Got a big 18 day trip to Sweden coming up at end of June, going out there with a few mates to walk & camp in the wilderness, so progress will be slow until after then due to funding, but, I finish college on the 19th, so I'll have plenty of time to work on her

Ooh Sweden, That's somewhere I would like to go at some point. Lucky bugger.
I think you should stay and look after the mini and I'll go camp in the wilderness for you. You can weld up my car too if you want >_<

Gee thanks man, really appreciate the kind words & I'm glad I can be of some help :D

I did some election duty work yesterday, so I was sat on a really quiet polling station with another bloke called Alister, never met him before, but luckily he was into classic cars as well  so I spent from 6 in the morning till 10 at night talking mainly about classics  I told him about how I needed my Sump Plug helicoiled and where the best place to get it done was, he didn't know of anywhere local to me, but suggested that rather than taking my whole engine on a trailer, I just separate the gearbox from the rest of the engine & that once it's off I can clean the sump out from 19-20 years of metal filings & any other debris that is sat in there.

Seems like a sensible idea to me, and worthwhile, is this an easy job then? I'm assuming I just undo all the nuts the whole way round and it'll just drop off from the main block?
