Gee thanks man, really appreciate the kind words & I'm glad I can be of some help :D

I did some election duty work yesterday, so I was sat on a really quiet polling station with another bloke called Alister, never met him before, but luckily he was into classic cars as well  so I spent from 6 in the morning till 10 at night talking mainly about classics  I told him about how I needed my Sump Plug helicoiled and where the best place to get it done was, he didn't know of anywhere local to me, but suggested that rather than taking my whole engine on a trailer, I just separate the gearbox from the rest of the engine & that once it's off I can clean the sump out from 19-20 years of metal filings & any other debris that is sat in there.

Seems like a sensible idea to me, and worthwhile, is this an easy job then? I'm assuming I just undo all the nuts the whole way round and it'll just drop off from the main block?

Take off clutch cover(wok), take of clutch/flywheel assembly, take off bell housing, undo all the little bolts on the bottom of the block. It should then come off.

Looking good so far though.

Ben

You'll need a puller for your flywheel but apart from that standard tools i think should do.

If you haven't taken a flywheel off before, the center nut holding it on has a lot of torgue on it. You need a 1-5/16" socket and a big breaker bar. Impact wrench works better. Then you have to have a proper flywheel puller. After that it is pretty easy. But when you put it back together you will have to get that center bolt VERY tight.

Got a big torque wrench so that's okay, I'll crack a can of spinach before I try.

Phoned up Top Gear in Mountsorrel & got quoted 40 quid to have the Sump Plug Helicoiled, I know Guessworks on here can do it for 25.. but he's an hour away, I'll try a few other places, but before then I need paying again & I need to get the gearbox off anyway.

This is the first Sunday since I can remember that I haven't been out in the garage!

Considering I need to buy a new front windscreen, I was thinking about buying a heated one and getting rid of my current 'heater' let's be honest.. they do naff all anyway, I'd be loosing my fresh air vents because of the dash so they will be welded up & I'd just simply loop the heater hoses onto each other so the circuit continues.

Read up on some forums about the heated screens and they work wonders, after a 20-25 minute drive into town on a cold frosty morning in winter I'd still be having to try and drive with one hand whilst with the other clear the screen with a pad, heated screen works within 5 minutes and keeps things toasty for the duration.

Opinions please?

Nothing lately man :) Final Major Project is finished now, will find out my grades on Friday, which will determine if I get into University or not  Spent quite a bit today for my Swedish trip, until I'm back there won't be much going on.

Gonna try and get out there tomorrow to see if I can strip down the front subby more..

Not much going on at all :P money is a big problem!

Thanks mate :) I'll let you know how I get on tomorrow.

Well for todays progress.. phonecall from Tesco asking if I wanted overtime, couldn't turn it down! so there won't be any work done today on her, but it means when I get paid next time, it'll be a big healthy one which means lots more progress ;)

Loving the project, i was thinking about a heated front screen instead of the useless heater, but wont the heater use less electric..seeming as its only a fan?

unless youve got a big alternator and this isnt a problem?

Also, let us know how youve done on your FMP, What did you do it on?
