Yes, but it will void your insurance.

God forbid you hurt someone or Write the car off.... you will get nothing back from the insurance if you try to claim and the assessor picks up large modifications that aren't declared on the policy.

You could even pick up a criminal record and points on your nice shiny new licnece :xmas:,.. which having just passed your test and being within the 2 year probation period,.. you can't afford to do, surely?

Declare everything.

and Merry christmas! :xmas:

Bearing in mind that will probably make it weigh more that it did with the original steel roof on. And the bars will have to be VERY well installed,.. if you roll the car (not saying you will) and those bars come off they could potentially kill you....

Sorry dude but i feel that it's still going to have the same problem and possibly be even more dangerous than the previous idea... the weld will not be strong at all as it's welding box section/tubing onto very thin body panels.

You'll have to declare the Massive structural and body modification, and it really will kick you in the Gonads hard when you get the quote back. You might have to make do with a Roll cage. It's the safest way to do it.

Probably not the best idea seeming as you can't weld aluminium to steel

just stick the cage in and notify the insurers, if you go with a classic mini policy, they probably won't mind as much

Footman James seem cheap for Minis, my friend got a quote with them and it'd pretty reasonable, he doesn't have a cage though.

You should really have been thinking about this stuff before you cut the roof off.

just had a look at this thread

just wanted to point out the roof skin is not structual other wise you would not be able to fit full lenght sunroofs with out adding extra steel etc

the roof pillars and the outer edge of the roof around the gutters is structual hence if you remove that have to add box section to the sills to stop the car sagging

dont have to fit a roll cage because you have a fibreglass skin instead of steel is not needed for strenght

not saying you cant just saying i would not bother

minus's and gtm's etc dont have full cages and there all fibreglass

Also I read somewhere about you wanting to make a smooth boot, did you make one yourself in the end?
