Top stuff!

Glad you decided to weld the bonnet, I'd have suggested that too...

Nice to see you back at it!

There was some more progress a few weeks back but I've no had time to make an update, everything is quite hectic at the moment.

Anyway, here we are:

20130525_160705_zps5ea8b56f.jpg
Bonnet holes welded up.

20130525_160812_zps27b61e75.jpg
Dash rail mounting holes welded up.

20130525_160832_zps6ea6e1a0.jpg
And the other side.

20130525_160821_zps6947d458.jpg
Ashtray hole welded up, not perfect but the best I could do with the mangled mess that was there.

20130525_171942_zpsbb22f3bb.jpg
Wing stripped bare for some filler work.

20130525_171951_zps4e75ba7d.jpg
I love the finish, I wish I could leave it like that.

20130525_195543_zps47b3158c.jpg
Bonnet filled and a quick rattle can covering of paint. You can just see the edge of the filler but it'll smooth out on the final block down.

20130525_195551_zpsb8d215db.jpg
Some filler on the wing. The large area at the back is where I warped it welding up the aerial mounting hole. The other smaller bits are from dents from being in the garage for such a long time.

20130525_195927_zps86536777.jpg

A quick rattle can to protect it until I return again (hopefully sooner rather than later).

Thanks for looking :-).

Whew! I just read the whole 104 pages.

This has been a fantastic build thread and I'm amazed at the quality of your work. You can really see how spending the extra time to get it right is worth it in the end. This is one of those seminal tmf threads, along with Hugh's poor mini sky and project erm. No doubt there are a few more too that I haven't got to yet.

Please don't be tempted to finish it off quickly, as you won't be happy and have to go back and do it all again (learnt that lesson the hard way).

Thanks for documenting this so thoroughly, it is another valuable resource for all mini owners.

Sorry I've only just seen this reply.

Which shirt do you mean?

Yeah the car is local to Lancaster, I've since moved away from it sadly.

I've been thinking and I've decided that It's time I presented some evidence in this thread to prove that I've not sold Elliot and given up.

IMG_20140711_151902_zps836bff30.jpg
Driver side, prep work complete and high build primer applied.

Now I should try and explain the slow progress. Obviously the big thing is that I've been in full time work for the last two years which rules at working in the week. When it comes to the weekend sometimes there's things going on with family and friends which I want to take part in, sometimes I'm available to work on Elliot and the weather has other ideas.

When I do get to work on her it's slow progress because of all the different types of paint I've applied over the years which all need removing to avoid any reactions with the cellulose paint I'm using. However so far so good, I've followed all the advice that PanelBeaterPeter shared with me and it seems so far so good, even when using an Earlex SprayStation to apply the paint.

I just want you all to know, I've not given up and I will finish Elliot and see her back on the road. The only real question at the moment is whether I'll paint the roof black like the rest of the body as per the original specification or orange to add a bit of my own flare.

Thanks for looking :-).

Nice too see your still going at it! I like the fact you have welded up most the bits your not needing I did that one mine and it makes it looks so much cleaner.

I would suggest one nice touch is to weld up the LHD wipe holes rather then putting those nasty chrome things on .

Great work man!

Keep it up Adam.

Interesting to see from the overspray that the spray pattern of the Earlex is obviously much courser, with much bigger droplets. Presumably it still flattens out OK once on the panel?

Thanks leaky, I actually don't mind the wiper holes too much and because the car is going to be black the black rubber grommets aren't too noticeable :-).

Graeme I must admit it wasn't as fine as I wanted but I put it down to not thinning the primer enough for the gun. It's high build so I think I could have done with going thinner. It's flattened out reasonably well on the panel, it'll need blocking but it was going to need that anyway. I feel relatively confident I can achieve a good shine with the Earlex.
