You shouldn't find too many nasties behind there, it's pretty thick metal in that area so most of the time it's just a case of cleaning it up and treating it

Got to put my brackets back on tomorrow before I seam seal everything in sight and put on another coat of primer.

Thanks vaughn1projects looking great, where did you get your inner wing halfs from?

They came from M-Machine, they're pretty good for pattern.

More:
Steering rack bracket removed.
Grotty.
Bulkhead quickly cleaned up.
Took longer than I expected to remove the bracket. More progress tomorrow. I'd like to get the bulkhead and under the wings in their first coat of primer before I come home.
Thanks for looking.
I'm glad my advice has helped with the steering rack mount, saying that though you have got me thinking about our engine steady bracket after seeing yours so off it will come to see whats lurking.

That is coming along really well though, i thought about welding over the fresh air vents but i will make some removable covers in case Scott wants to refit them at a later date.

Having had my fair experience with the fresh air vents I'm 100% certain myself personally would not go back to them which is why I was happy to weld them up. Other people may prefer them though

Bulkhead now dry, few runs I'll have to sand out but all good otherwise.

Positioned the steering bracket by the measurements I took before removing it as well as using the steering rack U-bolts to ensure the holes lined up.

Plug welded back in place.
I just need to remove the screws I used to hold it all in place, weld up the holes they left behind and grind the welds down, then I'll move on to the engine steady bracket, dress them both and get seam sealing! That won't be until Monday though as I'm off to MITP tomorrow

Thanks for looking

Cheersjust spent hours reading through your project which is looking great by the way Ive got a few good ideas I might use and given me alot of inspiration to get my mini projest moving on quiker
keep up the good work!

It's a shame Ed, it was a good day!tip top! what you get at MITP?? i didnt make it unfortunately....
I got a few bits and bobs for the heaters fresh air feed and I got an MK1 bootlid handle

Next year Ed, we convoy down and we should both be on the TMF stand and both run down the strip too. Literally put "I'll race ya"

Righto, todays work!

Engine steady bracket held in place with self tappers.

And welded on.

Steering rack bracket finished up.

Welds dressed then cleaned off and etched.

Same goes here.

Did all the seam sealing I needed to in order to be ready for the next primer coat.

All sealed.

And the bulkhead.
Plan is to head down earlier than normal tomorrow, rub the front down again and apply another coat of primer before 11am. Then I can leave it to dry all day and come back to put a coat of black on which can have overnight to dry.
Thanks for looking

You got me! You really should have said hi! Would have been good to have a chatYellow t shirt? and those black skate shoes with orange laces, remember you posting a picture of them because it's the colour scheme your mini is going

Good luck welding dude, just take your time and you can't go wrong. I'm using the lowest setting on my welder and wire feed at about 6 on the dial. I use 0.8mm flux cored wire as I use gasless. You'll get a feel for it in no time, if you don't get good penetration, either slow down your hand movement or slightly increase the wire feed and have another go

I decided to leave painting the bulkhead and the inner wings until the welding is finished and I'm happy with it all, just seems pointless to put primer on to burn it off again.

How I found it.

Back on it's front frame.

Rolled out the garage, hi-lo's wound right down.

Performing a 10 point turn on the drive, which is a slope proved a challenge. Really made me appreciate a car with an engine haha.
Tomorrow I shall start work on the heelboard ends I think.
