I agree what i did was idiot boardering on sycotic but for some reason i felt it was the best option at the time

I am not an expert by any mark and nhave never claimed as much but the main point is the car is back no one has been harmed in the making of this thread luckily

im collected the caliper by my sisters car tomorow morning and i shall never risk driving a car again which makes even a slightly bizar noise

and i thank the people who have been constructive and helpful in this thread that may be tarred as me being 3 stops away from a labotamy

ive been workin on cars for 3 years and in that time ive had many ups and downs but by no means has this put me off
just another lesson to learn like the rule of 9 when doing tappets

im sorry if i have incented rage or anger from anyone but this wasnt my intention

That's the most intelligent thing you have ever posted, chappy. Well done. You may learn yet.

Jeez, I thought you were one of the responsible forum members! I guess you'll be going a bit quiet now.... maybe you can go joy riding with that Dan lad.... just don't run into the back of him! ;-)

Seriously though, saying you've got no AA, no credit, no jack etc.... just doesn't cut it mate!

I've just got Brian through his MOT, first thing I did before I took to the road after the MOT. Fling jump leads, jack, some basic tools in the boot, get online and buy personal AA cover (to cover me in both my cars) £38! best money you'll ever spend! If you can't afford this basic cover then can you really afford to be driving? And you'll probably never need it, but if bits fall off your car and you don't have spares or the right tools at the time you can at least rely on a guy with a van FULL of tools to only be 1 hour away. As for no credit on your phone.... um whats the point of a phone if you don't have credit?

Finally.... tyre foam? What you like buying a tyre every time you get a simple puncture? I'd rather carry a pump/spare/jack and tools and then only spend £10 on a tyre repair rather than £50+ on a new tyre (most garages won't repair a tyre covered in manky gunk).

As requested earlier in the thread by Admin,...Please keep the comments from being personal insults, you are all capable of putting your points across without name calling.

I have also noticed some people evading the swear filter - we are a family forum with people of all ages online - please take 2 seconds to think about what you're typing before posting up needless obscenities.

Thanks.

The problem is that you seem to think this kind of behaviour is acceptable, anyone else remember his "ramp" tale.

Newsflash.........its not.

So you've learned your lesson, what was the lesson?

Don't work on your car especially safety related stuff like brakes unless your qualifed enough to do so?

If you hear a strange noise coming from your car stop?

Actually no, I really don't want to write anymore as I feel it will fall on deaf ears, hopefully when do finally learn your lesson it won't be at the expense of someone else and the only person you injure or the property you damage will be yours.

You are a danger to yourselves and others, if you'd truely learned your lesson then this thread wouldn't have happened, you wouldn't have bothered to lamely justify your actions and none of this would have been necessary.

Anyone fancy driving to Germany in car after mr saxo had, and I quote "crawled over it like a fit 20 year old"?

i think its actualy a law to have means of changing a wheel (which obviously extends to having a jack, and tools to remove a wheel) if you had those...you would have known (ignoring the tyre foam stuff, iv my own oppinions on that which doesnt belong in this thread)

you've been working on cars for 3 years or been making the tea for 3 years! someone with 3 years worth of experience should know a lot more than you do, i have read some of the stuff you post and advise you give, you have even argued again advice i have given out to people (i've only got 17 years worth of experience of working on cars), you think you know it all but infact you know nothing and this clearly proves it!

you should know how to tighten a few bolts up and use a torque wrench, also use common sence.

MartkyTizz, mini_turbo_pete and techno-steve; please stop with the insults, otherwise we'll have to close or remove this priceless thread!

If you bodged the calliper back on with the bolt from the top arm (what on earth was keeping the top arm on?), then you'll almost certainly need a new hub as well, or at least helicoil the calliper mounting hole on the hub.

I have always wondered when someone will post a topic on TMF showing such complete stupidity that it will make the thread one of those that gets linked to on many an automotive forum, I have a feeling my wait is over! :D

OK guys, as Jammy's said, enough of the insults. I know we've all done STUPID things in our times and sometimes people carry out things that are more stupid than others, but I think the point's been made. =] :D

Please Jammy do everyone a favour and stop this guy posting in the technical section or giving out advice as he clearly hasn't got a clue!
