I stripped apart my 998 because it was burning oil at quite a rate and spitting oil out the exhaust, thought the bottom end might have gone along with the rings and hones.

after about a 100000 miles the crank and bearings were like new with barely any wear, i don't understand how its wore so little in its 36 year life

Got the Maniflow stage 2 LBC and RCM centre exit system on, and the rest of it put back together so I could give it a run :-)

Fitted a Stage One kit and took it out for little drive. Big improvement but got the wrong air filter at Brooklands yesterday

ay so having to run it with the standard one, feels a little held back so going to have a look for a 1.5 inch k&n or similar. If anyone wants a 1.75 inch cone filter...  :shy:

Yup...a nasty repair and plenty of new cracks.. I need the car wednesday so there isnt really time to order a new one and wait for delivery, so i had to fire up the welder and grinder

minilcb006_zps1d822365.jpg

ground off the old welds to get a proper look at the cracks.. then drill a hole at hte end off each one to stop it spreading as its welded

minilcb008_zps92a3723c.jpg

welded it all up and added gussets over the joins to add strength

minilcb011_zps6f828939.jpg

Just got to stick it back together tomorrow... fingers crossed for decent weather

got the welded up LCB back on...

made this little doohicky bracket thing to connect the bottom of the pipe tom the gearbox...

it was missing altogether when i took the thing apart yesterday, that may have led to the pipes cracking in the first place.

Finished rubberising the rear subframe and the two front suspension struts. Then thought I would clean up the boot ready to just 'tidy it up'. De-greased it and could see daylight through holes in the boot floor. More bl***y rust!!! Now I have to replace part of the boot floor so I am going to do the battery box as well.
