Decided to make a start removing the grille strip and the bonnet strip which supports it.

Unfortunately the bonnet was a little rotten, so I did this,

then did a bit of this,

Quite impressed with the quality of rattle can paint!! Was starting to bloom a little though so I'll cut it back tomorrow and have a look if it's acceptable.

Fitted the straight cut drop gears. Need a thinner shim though as there's no end float.

Nice job on the bonnet exuptoy.

The splits are 6x10. I had a set of 6.5" before, but personally I think 6" are spot on. They look a bit crap in that pic because the dishes have finger marks and tyre paste smudges on lol

Continued stripping it down to bare shell for nut and bolt restoration. Got two front lights and front panel out as well as pulling half the loom through the boot and rear passenger storage well. Another disassemble day tomorrow awaits!

Took the girlfriends clubby snowboarding, was great fun overtaking 4wds in a 36 year old mini. And got my estate all legal and on the road for the first time in nearly 10 years.

Just need to sort a miss fire and fuelling out

Gave the bonnet another few coats of paint so it should be plenty thick enough to cut back. Also started to refurbished my steering wheel (Friday not today).

Got an old scruffy wheel from Patriot on here which was in poor condition and needed a refurb.
Never got a pic of it before but decided to strip it and give it a once over.
I drilled out the rivets holding the centre spoke to the wood rim. I sanded the rim with decorators glass paper to rid the wheel of the ingrained dirt and traces of glue etc.

Once smooth and clean I purchased some clear polyurathane varnish which was water based, I watered down the stuff 50/50 with regular water and gave it its first coat with a cheap gravity spray gun connected to my compressor using an in line water trap and left it to dry. I then gave it 4 x coats of undiluted varnish, leaving the previous coats to flash off and go tacky then left it to dry. I will now use some 1000 wet and dry to polish it up a little then give it a thin coat to give it a shine.

It looks like this so far.

Then I turned my attention to the boss, I have fitted polished stainless cap heads and painted it electric blue to match the car.

Just the centre spoke bit left to polish then it can go back together.

yesterday- prepped & painted all 4 wheels; I've tried multi coating with yacht varnish to try & keep the ally bits smart. I need to sand back a few dribbles yet though

today- prepped the sills before welding the sills- at some point................., oh and started mocking up bottoms for the rear pockets, from card.
