Caught the silencer on the shut plate in the road between a set of gates causing it to blow.  I could see the silencer was well buckled on the front rim so I took the system off for a better look. There was no hole luckily but the collision had caused the flange where the pipe joins the cast iron manifold to become deformed. With the help of 'er indoors holding the system up I placed the flange down on top of the ball of a towhitch and tapped round with a small hammer till it was back in shape.

Re-fitted - good as new - almost!

New CV boot fitted, rear brakes stripped down, cleaned then adjusted handbrake cable.

Took it for MOT re-test.

Passed.

They tested it as a non catalyst fitted car, so passed emissions as well.

Attempted to repair some minor blemishes on my GT bonnet and change the colour from black back to Blaze (orange) using spray cans, managed to achieve a reasonable finish.

Removed all the seam sealant in the boot and found some nice holes. Looking at it I get the impression poor application of said sealant does more harm than good. Is there any need to have such a wide seem of the stuff surely it only needs to be around the seam itself.

Replaced the head gasket, gave it a decoke, put it all back together only to discover a crack in the thermostat housing.

Corrected the crappy wiring behind the dashboard which one of the previous owners had done.

This may also be a silly question but what does the button in the above image do that looks like a foot pedal?

You're going to like this. It tests the bulb in the switch works when you press it. It's an mot fail if it doesn't work. The bulb is the low level brake fluid warning light.
