exciting times Lund!

Most certainly is! All of the ancillaries aren't pictured. Im having a hell of a time getting the head bolts untorqued and head off! left them to soak in WD!

Most certainly. Its an MG block with bigger head, circa 70bhp standard. I'll be pleased to see about that on the rollers, however with high lift cam and 3:44 diff, matced to my exhaust system - who knows ;)

I'll be using the gearbox off the 1275 metro and putting that on the MetGoat 1275 & the 998 diff.

I'm aching all over moving the engines from the drive to the garage... Bolts are torqued and difficult to remove - if not rusted solid.

Sounds like you need some Brute Force and Pig Ignorance,or failing that Wd40 a big breaker bar or even a windy gun.

I'll second that! Day 2; of Lund's head removal efforts. I managed to pry the head from the block on one side with the scissor jack, however it needs to be removed flat otherwise it wont come off :P I got the straw on the WD and sprayed all between the block and the head, so that should free things up abit. I think the head studs are snagging the head therefore not pulling off. I've even had the engine upside down, hitting the head with a rubber mallet...no avail! I put the plugs back in and turned the engine over, hoping the compression would blow the head through the roof, but...no avail. I suspect the head has had a recon as the bronze valve guides suggest this. I think I'll be taking a dremel to the ports like I did on the 850. :D

Awesome thread and even more awesome mini!
Congratulations for all the hard work, patience and managing not to cover it in every shiny thing you could.

Looks very tasty indeed.

I'm just at the planning stage of my project and you have certainly inspired me.

Just read through the entire thread. 2 cups of tea later and wishing it was light so I could go and fiddle (with the car)

The Head is off! Today I set about removing the diff from the 998 to see what I've got. I'm going to use the gearbox off the 998 and the diff off the 998 also, I dont want to match a different diff on a different case, thus preventing an oil leak! The 998 box is the 5626 casting, the same as the 1275, so I'll be using that. I need to pull the flywheel off the remove the housing covers to get the box off, once I have done that I inspect it to see what I've got! The valves on the head are huge compared to my 'toy' 850 ones.

The diff looks clean and in good condition - I have never had a diff off or a box off a block, so I didn't have a clue what to expect...
