Brilliant every time, far too clean for my liking though!
really impressive.
You want to see abit of filth ay? She's far from clean at the moment. This is how she stands;

I've got quite abit going with her at the moment. Ideally I could do with a whole new front end, but I'll postpone that for now and try keep on top of it.
I stripped most of what I could from the 850 today, I'll get back out into the garage soon and continue cleaning parts! (I'm forever cleaning & respraying). The only thing that would let the 1293 down right now, is the state of the engine bay. However, this weather isn't great for spraying and I can't get my mini into the garage, due to the Mk111. I think I'll tidy up what I can and use my vermillion aerosol to spray the engine bay. See how I get on, I'm minus my mouse sanded now and the bottom has completely fallen off.

MK111

Door repair:

I'm after a set of silicon hoses now.

Whats the point of drilling the thermostat? Not heard of it done before

I know it's a bit late now but you might want to try i-kube insurance as they're the cheapest for me but nobody's heard of them!
Good luck with the engine

Really do like this mini
Good progress, think the radiator fan will be fine although it does bow a fair bit.

The fans do tend to draw in when they're hot, but it should be fine - failing that I have a huge fan spacer, though I would also require longer bolts.
If you blank off the bypass and don't have the later type of thermostat housing (sandwich block), the pump is fighting to pump water which can't get past the stat. If you drill a few holes to compensate for the flow of the blanked by-pass hose, the water can still flow a bit until the stat starts to open. The later housings as fitted to heads with no bypass have the aluminium sandwich block with the heater take-off pipe, so they don't need a by-pass.
I'm after a set of 'GT' driveshafts to fit my 'S' disks as the 850 shafts are univeral pot joint type, but are not as bulky as 1275 ones.

I soon realised that the radiator top bracket that I had painted wouldn't fit the 1275 head, so have bought a 1275 one with new rubber collets. Currently, I am waiting on one part before I can hosit the new engine into place, which happens to be on the flywheel end cover - so cannot mount the engine, otherwsie I would have fitted the engine in the snow!

and out;

I'm hoping to get back into it once Christmas has passed. There's always something to hold me up!
We're currently looking abit sorry for ourselves!

&
1293;

Goodridge one piece clutch hose;

and finally the rocker cover that I'll be using;

All the best, I wish you all a good Christmas.
Be back soon,
Tom

looking swish! dont think you needed that many holes in the stat... you only needed one really... i drilled too many in mine and it took aaaages to heat up... especialy on the colder days, no good for getting the heater on!

Hi,
Merry Christmas to you too. I'm also slightly unsure about the stat, but the 4 holes compensate for the loss of the flow from the troublesome bypass hose. I have a spare stat I can swap if this one becomes a problem. The goodridge hose is brilliant, it uses 2 banjo bolts and copper washes. You just remove all the metal tubing from the Clutch master cyl, feed the hose through the hole in the bulkhead bracket and banjo bolt it directly to the master cyl. It doesn't get any simpler than that

Cheers,
Tom

How come your swapping the rocker covers the one on it now looks tasty with the black and chrome.

Looking ace Tom, but the radiator looks a bit slack in comparison to the rest of the engine haha

The radiator is a plastic lightweight one, I think its Circa. It has bronzed edging and the metal fins are in good condition, I just haven't sprayed them as the paint might clog up, therefore the rad wont do its job properly - You can buy radiator paint however.
I prefer the metro rocker cover to the other. Its more bulky and hardcore

Was just knit picking with the radiator mate as your builds always look so perfect.
Bit of a hypercite with the rocker cover really as I plan to do the same but mines just a plain chrome one. Im gonna putting on a aston/monza petrol cap on top of it though, you gonna do the same? Would really finish it off nicely.
Great build, look forward to the updates.
Chris.

Since we're nit picking, take a look at the inside of the pulley wheel. Its still only im primer! I might use the chrome cap off the rocker cover pictured on the engine. I tried it and it does clasp.
