Thought I'd bets keep this topic going. Quite a fair amount of work has been achieved since my last post. Having just been to Bingley Hall mini show, I have everything I need to complete the build and get an MOT. Albiet, I hope!

I began throwing the hubs together giving them a primer and top coat enamel, along with the S brake calipers:

A new set of shocks were ordered. I opted for the GAZ lowered shocks for lowered minis as I have finally set the car on Hi-lo's all round. I have new rubber cones on the front, but yet to get some for the back. The shocks have an adjustable setting (what setting do you run yours on?) I counted 10 notches as an initial setting.

I also have the rears, which are yet to go on as the car is still jacked up towards the front.

Hubs partly assembled, all shims set and locktabs fixed:

The calipers and red stuff pads (slight overkill!) are on, ready to take the wheels now:

This is where I am to date. I have fitted a new set of front seatbelts (Genuine Kangol ones) as my others had frayed.

A few cheeky shot of the brakes:

Note: Still to finish repairing the drivers door - wish for decent weather!

Nearly forgot to mention, I fitted some black bonnet pins. Alot more inkeeping with the style of the car:

Pump wont prime. I suspect its not spinning with the cam despite it being a slot drive type and standard MG cam.

Lund, don't fear, i had the same with my pump.

Now i can't explain too well, but here goes.

The arm that exits the block and feeds the oil filter, take that off from the block, put a funnel in that hole, pour oil in the funnel till it fills it up (ie not draining), shove the engine into gear, and roll it backwards, the pump will prime in reverse, and when you try and crank it up next time, its primed already and it begins to draw oil through :D

Worked like a charm for me :P

James, I have tried that method. The pump simply doesn't suck the oil down when pushed back in gear. Its like the pump isn't turning. No gulping of oil, just a slight drain as it goes through.

Sounds odd that the pump isn't turning - with the late type slot drive cams and pumps there is no intermediate drive that could be missed and if the pump didn't sit into the cam properly then it simply wouldn't bolt up properly (or the cam would be dispalced and the timing end would be all wrong).

If the cam is turning the pump must be unless there has been a major failure on the pump and the drive has sheared.
The only other way would be a 998 pump in a 1275 block but this is a small bore isn't it?

Ah, I flicked back at the previous page and saw the pictures of the engine in the car, not the one that was going in!!

So....is a 1275 oil pump fitted or a 998 one? Although I wonder if a 998 one with fit anyway as I'm pretty sure the bolt holes are different spacings.

A 1300 pump is fitted. The correct type. The problem being is that the pump is sitting flush with the block whereas it should be recessed 3-5mm. Basically the spade drive hasnt seated in the cam correctly. I assume that when I strip it (again) the drive will be chewed to a point by the cam, with swarf everywhere! I stripped most of the engine today ready to take it back out.

Do you have the cam plate bolted to the other side of the engine to stop the cam moving about?
