good day today, managed to get someting done today, changed the condensor, still no change, so from the electrical side I was confident enough that all was good.
Carb next, although I had done a few vacuum leak test's, it was time to take the SU4 of and give it a once over again, all cleaned and jet pipe and hose blown through, re-assembled and then there was the.....butterfly spindle.......although it looked alright, when opening the B'fly there was far to much play on the spindle, put this carb asside and made an SU4 out of 3 carbs, new gaskets and bits ready for a test, fired the engine up and at start still a bit rough but as black smoke came out of the exhaust I thought that might have been the carbon build up from a faulty carb. took him for a run and all is great.
So I missed Bingley beacause of a worn spindle and two weeks mind bothering/frustration, but got there in the end. This whole episode had all the symptoms of a faulty Coil,or a faulthy Dizzy but I know now with help from a patience Mr DKLawson what to look for and how to measure electrics to chase possinbilities Faults, and in the end it was the carb spindle worn (but not picked up by vacuum test). so one more lesson learned on a mini's engine little teasers.
God bless the Mini's
