Looking good, congrats with MUK! Would love to have those kind of roads over here in the Netherlands!

Hi Rick, yes I do remember they are rather flat and slow,..might come over with him end of May and see f there are any speed camera's.

How is your HL doing, all welding done yet?

Nothing yet unfortunately, the floor will be done as soon as possible I hope.
It is a shame that it's rusting, but I'm glad that he's driving very good so far. About 1000 miles ago I replaced the head gasket because the old one was missing quite a large piece between cilinder 3 and 4... The disk brakes are working great as well!

I managed to get a pair of original Rover wings to go on my Mini (70 quid for both, not bad I think).

used dwell meter for the first time today, interesting piece of kit I wish I had that one month's ago,....adjusted points to speck, from 44 to 54 degrees, corected timing +5degrees and carb idle to 850-900. all good and smooth.

Yes that was in Holland, via a forum member of the dutch Mini forum ;) The head is an original 998 item, don't know why it blew but it looks to be fine so far with the new head gasket

A dwell meter, what kind of tool is that?

dwell meter is an electrical tool to measure the dwell angle/time between the cam lobes in the dizzy and closing the points between them. all to do with the strenght of the spark into cylinders,...Mechanically you set the points with a feeler blade, however a dwell meter is accurate.

when you blown the gasket(s) have you ever skimmed the head and top of the block?

No haven't done that, I was told when a head gasket blew, and the engine didn't overheat, it should be fine to fit a new one without skimming, but I've torqued the bolts to 72Nm instead of 68Nm. So far he's doing fine

Might be worth looking at the head, a skim might just what is needs when gasket goes again,(hopefully not), would not over-torque the bolts to much, to often, engine gets hot and needs to expand,......4Nm is not a lot but could be to much. >_<

Will do that when the gasket goes again, but I hope it won't!

cheers, appreciate your comment, Muk is up and running but still needs nursing now and then(its a mini afterall), Evy is in the same state as Muk was only Muk all was covered up, while EVY all rust ,if there is a panel, is right in front of you, so all more planning rather then a quick fix, but you will see what I am up against now,.... :shades:

Having shown MUK to his mates at Malvern last Sunday,

he had a good run, but not that happy with his pulling power and driving form felt like he was holding back on me, so yesterday I got finally my Dwell meter from fleabay, and started playing with re-tuning and timing today.
set Dwell on 54 it was on 64, no wonder,.....re-set timing at 8 on 1500RPM, 0+2 on 750 Idle, then the CO2, at 3.1%, So theoretically should be spot on, He sounds good will have him on the road tmr for a test run, hopefully it will be the last of it......snow tday >_<

Have decided that the Sportex Dual exit exhaust has to go as it is affecting the engine's preformance, its a 998cc engine, 2" exhaust pipe creates to much back pressure, although it sounded fab and looked good, it is time for a change.

put MUK on ramps and stands,

final check and say goodby

off with it

Recieved today from somerford mini's, Maniflow single box 13/4" exhaust system+kit, hopefully all goes well and will be offered tomorrow.
