alright mate. you might want to strengthen the bracket on the bulkhead that holds the steady on the drivers side. its got some kick to it this engine and i dont want to flexing and what not.

my one was strengthened by replacing it with some cast iron that spread a bit along the bulkhead more. just something to consider.

i've been full of cold this weekend, so couldn't do as much as i wanted. lots of small bit bought, inc gaskets, turbo down pipe, braided oil feed pipe. hopefully i won't be doing this agian too often, fitting the head gasket

Posted Image

and the only other thing was to fit the turbo down pipe, which i struggled with for an hour! but its on now

much appreciated! nothing can stop me from trying to get this car on the road! only problem i am sort of having with the car now is the inevitable (spelling) rust! i didn't remove all of it from the scuttle, as it has started to bubble through, its also coming through on an a-panel! main focus now is to get the engine sorted and runing, get it road legal, then i might give it to a bodyshop to fix the rust, or fix it myself, if i'm feeling up to it.

Steve,

complements for your hard work and beautifull car. Seems like a nice paintwork.

I'm wondering if your flipfront-hinges wont crack the new paint when you flip. Did you make any strengthening at the inside of it?
Does the new bumper covers the skrews and bold wich are visible from the front?

Keep up the good work!

the front number plate will be held on by the upper 2 bolts on the hinges, which will help spread the load. this will also cover the 2 bottom bolts, which will have some larger washers on them. each of these have a sort of foam gasketon them to help prevent cracking of the fiberglass. there is a bit of reinforcing where the hinges bolt onto, i smeared a layer on fiberglass (that isopon p38 stuff) where they were going to go and smoothed it out so it matched the curve of the hinges.

and onto the hinges, they are to be honest C**p. the whole front was bought from minispeed as a kit, and the hinges i got were straight ones. so i had to bend them myself. in the future i plan to make some more robust ones, and i'll change the support method, so i can lock it open.

little odds and sod done this weekend. one of them was the heater. now i do want to be warm in winter and with the fitment of a turbo box i needed to re-mount it. so this is my solution. the rear is suspended if you will on 2 long bolts on l brackets at the back. at the front i have 2 more bolts which go into the holes in the bottom dash rail. some people might find it crude and half finished but it is secure and it will do for me!

now we all know the mini shifting mechanism on a mini seems abit loose and well sloppy. i will be getting a kad shifter to help but also i am trying this minispares slick shifter. it certianly makes a difference, for those who don't know what its for it is basically a spring used to center the gear stick in neutral right between 3rd and 4th. it was originally created for 5speed gearboxes to prevent 2nd to 5th shifting. gives it a more modern feeling.

do you still wish it looked like this? well as said in mini chat my mini was hit by the wind, or more precisely my neighbors roof!

here is what hit (this one took out our fence)

and this is how their roof looks!

unfortunately house insurance doesn't work like car insurance, so if we wanted to claim it would be on our own insurance, which we may do to help lighten the load on paying to fix it. now i could march round there with a bill saying pay up, but i know they would say no, and i'd take them to court and blah blah blah. it would just escilate (spelling) and we would probabily end up paying anyway! so i'm getting the bodyshop to pop round and give me a quote on how much to fix it next weekend, and i may get a professional dent person round to smooth things out! here is some better shots of the damage.

right so with that out my mind for now, i have done abit more work on the bugger! clutch master is now fitted and plumbed up, with a new goodridge stainless steel braided hose. the feel of the clutch is nice and strong! and adjustable engine steady has also been fitted, so i can adjust the engine position if i need to!

aye should be able to hear her running in a month or two. got a quote to fix the damage, £400. this isn't including parts though, which are rear quarter, front headlamp and bowl. so the total should be under £500. my plan now is to get it running, and the drive it down to the bodyshop, get it fixed, drive it back, and then finish it off.
