Yeah they are std...if they were over bored pistons they would be stamped with the over bore size..+20. +40 etc.

If the machine shop reckon your pistons are ok...you can get the rings on minispares web site...

http://www.minispare....aspx?pid=37903

Might save you a few quid..

i'll give him a ring in the morning and let you know.

What is the difference between mine and yours then andy what makes them better so to speak thought the only improvement was by going to a larger bore.

The size of the dish in the top of the piston is different. the Higher comp pistons have a smaller dish and so will squash the fuel air mix that little bit more..giving a bigger bang and therefore more power... I think yours are 9.75 to one and mine are 10 to one...but im not totaly sure on the compression figures..the Mg engine had the highest standard compression ratio of all the A+ engines and in my opinion the best standard cam..

right that refreshed me memory all down to compression rartio's never fully understood it but grasp the concept thank you.

i've already instigated the engineer in fitting the current pistons and sourcing rings to match so will ring him and see what he says fingers crossed he didnt manage to get any rings.

cheers

reading your thread two questions why does your head have double valve springs?
you removed the core plugs i didnt realise you could do this as mine look like they have been welded in on the inside, is this neccessary?

im defo going to need advice on timing things up lol

after a bit of advice remember reading up on this a while back but now cant find any threads blocking off the bypass hose on the thermostat whats the point again?

useful tip i thought i would share.

washing your hands teaspoon of bicarbonate soda dollop of washing up liquid and give a bit of a scrub gets hands sparkling like new, worked better than the heavy duty hand cleaners you can get i rarely where gloves so my hands get caked in oil and grease.

just thought i would share :D

Just spent a canny wedge at mini spares i have got new radiator, oil pump, water pump. full gasket set, clutch breather and some other bits and bobs made a canny dent in the budget.
Will wait for the engineers bill before i decide on whether to upgrade the flywheel and timing chain i more than likely will as it will be a shame not too, cant wait for tues for all the new bits :D

spent the day cleaning the carbon out of where the piston rings go just used a hack saw blade to gently break it up then some fine wet and dry paper to tidy up. the damaged piston has had a good clean up with wet and dry its still pitted but the surface is quite smooth and polished so should be okay.

cleaned up the fuel pump and i was amazed how immaculate it was inside.

i have also cleaned up the oil filter housing and there was a rubber grommet type thing inside where the vaccuum pick up point is minispares had no clue does it need replacing or can i just bang it back in.

cleaned the thermostat housing down and polished it up with a buffer nice and shiny now :D

now its the waiting game might clean up the gearbox external a bit more.

just want to say cheers to andy for his help and the excellent offer on a set of pistons see above unfortunately the engineer has already replaced the piston rings so i am just refurbishing my current set which have turned out better than i thought so saved a few quid i think so hopefully spend the money on the flywheel and timing chain :D
