Yesterday was a pretty successful day!

the car did end up in it's preferred position, again
Posted Image

managed to finally get the cones changed with the use of a couple of pry bars... :shades:

and the difference in the cones was quite big (at least I think...)
Posted Image

AND! Finally got my 10'' wheels attached to the tyres and on my car!
took a bit of effort to get it on properly!
the place that fitted the tyres and balanced them, put 2 layers of wheel weights on the rim,
which meant that the second layer of weights caught on my brake callipers >_<

and another of the tyres wasn't quite mounted on he rim properly...

so, I had to take them back, and they then sorted them out :shifty:
and then, they went on! ;D
Posted Image

me thinks they look awesome! :D

they do still need to be fully restored though, but they'll get done soon hopefully :proud:

however, there is one problem, 2 of the tyres that I have got (the back ones) both have slow punctures so I will have to replace them at some point soon >_<

that's all,

Rob

Damn that looks nice, glad I persuaded you to switch to tens then? ;D Unlucky with the punctures, those were the two part worns I guess? Feel any better with less collapsed cones on the front?

Yeah I really like it on the tens, and I have found that it copes with bumps and such much better now! :D
The un-collapsed cones are much nicer to deal with and it was the first thing my girlfriend noticed after I had swapped everything :teehee:
I know >_< but I guess that'll teach me for buying part worns :shy: I think I am gonna try some tyre-weld before shelling out for new tyres on them :shifty:

Looking rather nice if i may say so :shades: :shades:

Haha thank-you, I do like it a lot if I'm honest! :proud:

Just a quick shout, but without any pictures this time...

last night I ran into a problem, >_< went round a corner near my house, went to change gear and the revs shot up to about 7.5k!
of course I turned the ignition off instantly... thankfully there was no smoke, but I got the bonnet up and had a look (thinking something had come loose and was trapping the throttle open on the carb.. but it wasn't, however, when I then tested the pedal, I discovered that it was getting stuck open... O_O

so I managed to get it home using the part of the choke that opens the throttle slightly and then investigated properly in the morning...
I found that the grommet type thing in the cable shroud wouldn't fit in the hole it was designed for :goaway:
and had broken, which was then trapping the cable when it was put under extra tension (i.e. when under acceleration)

so what I did was cut the grommet off till it was just the disk part left and opened up the hole slightly, refitted it, and it is the smoothest my throttle has ever been!
feeling very smug about it now... :shifty:

that's all for now, although I should think there will be an update either on Sunday, or Monday, with some BIG news...

which you'll all have to wait and see about :shades:

thanks for taking the time to read this,

Rob :proud:

So I've been busy.

pathetic excuse I know, but nevertheless,
I have changed my wheels again!
same design, just different, I'll get a photo soon (probably tomorrow)

And in other news,
I spent many of my monies on a shiny thing :shy:
(photos tomorrow) ;D

And also decided that a new wheel boss was in order (again, photos tomorrow) :D

got a lot of photo's to take tomorrow >_<
I also got some free wheel arches with the wheels, I believe they're group 2 wides so they'll cover the wheels nicely :shades:
just godda get them fitted now :shifty:

thanks for reading,

Rob

Haha well, as promised, some pictures :proud:
haha! well here is where you find out.... :shifty:

So, first things first,
the new wheels:
Posted Image

And yes, I did have to butcher the arches slightly so they don't rub >_<

And the arches (free due to the kindness of The Otter) :proud:
Posted Image

Just to give you an idea :teehee:

Next the shiny thing! :shifty:
Posted Image
Posted Image

It is a Weber 40DCOE and yeah I know it is way too much for my piddly 998 and I know the manifold is rubbish being a swan neck >_<
I might look into getting a shorter manifold instead (I don't want to be cutting my bulkhead for anything. :proud: )
So far, I have spent time trying to work out which chokes and jets I'll need to get hold of to get him started on my car (as it is jetted for a mildly tuned 1275)
I am not sure how accurate my calculations are, but I went for the smallest choke available (24mm)
and I found a couple of websites which made it nice and easy to follow the calculations (http://cnx.org/content/m37431/latest/)
from this, I'll apparently need a 95 main jet, a 145 air correction jet, an F11 emulsion tube and a 50 idle jet?
not sure if it's completely right as I say but hopefully it will be good enough to get it started... :teehee:

Lastly, the new wheel boss...
Posted Image

chose to go new as I could then choose which sticker I wanted,
Hence the Morris badge... ;D

think that is all for now, other than I have discovered the reason my throttle cable is so useless... and it's because the hole too small for the grommet so I have cut the whole thing off and tried to squish the sleeve through the hole, which has sort of worked and it is even better than it was last time I improved it, but still not perfect... next time I change the cable, I'll sort the hole out properly. Probably through the use of a drill... :whistling:

So I have been doing a little bit of investigation into the Weber.

It turns out that it has got:
36mm chokes
3.5mm aux venturi
45/F8 idle jets
175 idle jets
F2 emulsion tubes
and 180 air correctors.

the combinations seem a little odd to me, but I guess the different engine required something completely different...
either way, the only thing I can really keep are the auxiliary venturi and possibly the idle jets, the rest will have to be changed >_<

On another note, I am considering switching the the centre clocks style...

What do people think?
seeing as I am going for MkII it would sort of fit in with the retro look... :shifty:

thanks for reading,

Rob

Right, so I have been quiet for a while now due to strating uni again and not having much time for anything :shy:

but I have managed to do somethings.
the sticky throttle cable is pretty much sorted no, still a little odd, but I shall try to sort it all properly at a later date.
I found that the cable was also fouling at the carb end so I cut the white bit off and stuffed the end into the hole ;D
and then after driving The Otters car, found that my throttle pedal is very high up! so I adjusted it to this:
Posted Image

and it is much nicer now :proud:

I also fitted my arches so I am no longer running it 'illegally' :teehee:
Posted Image

I think they suit perfectly! :D
I will get some new ones when money permits, just not yet >_<

I also went to castle coombe this year (Aweome day! :D ) and bought myself some fancy things:
Posted Image

I firmly set my slef down the path of going for center clocks:
Posted Image

I also got another one with the surround (not in as good a condition as this one though) primarily for the guages it came with:
Posted Image
Posted Image

both original smiths ones (cleaned them up before taking pictures  ) although I realise the temp isn't in the greatest of conditions >_<

I also got hold of a sportex exhaust (although have since changed plans (because my middle box is knocking badly so want a single box system to clear the problem) and am currently sat awaiting a delivery ;D
Posted Image

I made a minispares order after discovering that I could move my engine quite a lot with just my hand :shy:
ordered solid subframe mounts (as my rubber ones were a bit wobbly) and some poly bushes for the engine steadies:
Posted Image
Posted Image

along with the oil pressure fitting kit:
Posted Image

and got to work:
Posted Image
Posted Image

seeing as I am set on having center clocks, I am going to be getting a dash and matching center console for christmas as a joint present from pretty much everybody... and everything will be in it's right place by then... :teehee:

changing the bubframe mounts went fairly smoothly,
got him back in his favoured place:
Posted Image

and they all got swapped over (even if it did take me a fair while to do :shy: )

Changing the steady bushes, didn't go so well.. as I discovered that this had happened:
Posted Image

the bracket which holds the lower steady to the subframe had sheared off and was just there making lots of noise. >_<
but according to my mechanic they don't really do anything anyway, so I left it off and will just be attaching the 'ultimate engine steady' instead for peice of mind... :proud:

I also have been having a leaky car for a while and have decided that I need to find the source of the leak, one of the big areas I suspect is that there is no checkstrap seal on the drivers door, but I decided to take the door cards off anyway:
Posted Image
Posted Image

all the black tape you see, is what I covered up after taking them off, and the door cards were also a little damp at the bottom so hopefully taping the holes up should help prevent leaks from there, and as The Otter pointed out, gives it a 'racer look' :shifty:

As well as all this, my drivers side seat has collapsed >_< :
Posted Image

now I have to start thinking about new seats too :goaway:

then at 10:48 whilst finishing off this article, this arrived:
Posted Image

and when i got through it's well wrapped shell, much green goodness revealed itself:
Posted Image
Posted Image

:w00t: :w00t: :w00t:

don't think I have ever wanted to get something on the car as quickly as this!

hopefully there will be another update soon with it on there... :genius:

so that is all the news for a month,
hope I haven't caused some of you to die of old age whilst reading through it,
I'll try and keep the rest a little more concise than this one

thanks, for reading,

Rob

Certainly is a good deal of work done to the car! :D
Thats the hope that it looks good after I've finished everything... :teehee:
Well I am glad that it makes it a good story to read :-)
How have you aged?
I'm looking forward to then too! Going to be awesome!
I thought your idea was to put the nipping seiki type tripple clocks in the center, which can also be done...?
Whereas mine is normal center clocks with a slight twist :teehee:

If you suspect water is coming through from inside the door then check to make sure the drain holes (three of them) are clear.
