more work today - again more boring stuff, and i found more rust! hey ho! doesnt actually look that bad
Took a lot more bitumen out - Surprised how heavy it is!
Really long bits of threaded bar made if difficult to remove the carb, so i took the whole lot off .. the nuts round the back of the manifold were finger tight.. bit worrying!
I found it easier to work on the engine bay this way :) sitting on the wing :)

I decided to give niki some help today as she needed the motivation to get more done.
I did all the engine bits while she did the rest of the tar stuff on the floor.

Ok, so this post is more for my reference but feel free to add thoughts and comments!
The car is now off its wheels and set level on the slanty driveway, at a small cost to the passenger floor pan!
Ive also started rubbing down the floor pan to treat any surface rust. Problem with this is i cant handle the angle grinder for too long so alot of this is being done by hand or dremel.
So next steps include:
Remove engine
Remove Subframes (Front and rear)
Continue treating surface rust - Kurust and etch primer (1k or weld through depending on area)
Tidy engine bay + surface rust.
Tidy shed.. Again! - Look at putting shelves up for more storage.
Restore current rear subframe and put back on car
Get mini back on rear wheels and start to work on sills.
All the welding!!
Make some lists of what I have / Require.
Wait patiently for allspeed to create their micra subframe
And!!! work on tuning the micra engine i currently have ;)

Spot the problem
And heres a pic for me to keep looking at for inspiration lol

Spent some more time on her after work today.
Started getting ready for the rear subframe removal.. im glad its being removed after seeing the gaping hole in it Lets just say it wont be for sale once its off!
Found yet more holes and the floor fell away in the boot when i started to pick at it
Its a very strange pattern of rust appearing - the boot lip is fine but the right hand corner is non existent but the subframe mount areas on under the rear seat seem to be fine..
Edit to say that i also picked up a better airbox for the micra - Should feel a little more free up the rev range now :)

If I was going to start this project again I would make sure I have all the tools needed before jumping in. I thought i had everything required but find myself spending out on extra tools etc.. Today I am buying a proper socket set that doesnt snap in my hands!

Yep - always good to have the proper tools - makes life sooooo much easier!
Have you got a lockup/garage to work in or working outside? I'd love to find one around this area to work on my projects in......just not sure how to go about finding one, or whether I could afford it, seems quite expensive round here.
