Painted the bulkhead and subframe today. I used red Hammerite spray for the subframe, used it as per the instructions and the result is rubbish. 3 coats and it barely covers the black, runs all over the place, not happy. I will have another go with cellulose once the Hammerite is dry.

Glad it's not just me then. That's why it's on the dining room table to try and get the stuff to dry. I have been using Gold, Silver, Black and White and all have been good it's just the red. I have sent a complaint to Hammerite. I'm sure they will probably come back and tell me I was using it wrong.

Hammerite isnt what it used to be.
The brush on stuff from the pots is watered down to within an inch of its life too.
You used to be able to cover anything with hammerite and it would go so far! no I go through pot after pot and often need three coats.
I bough some 33% extra free black smooth and it just seemed like they had watered it down an extra 33%. I hope they are not going to use this as the "new blend".
Rustoleum is now miles better.

I bought a 5 litre pot of some chassis black off ebay, 100 times better, basically the old blend, and it cost the equivelant of 2 litres of hammershite. Covers really well

Bulkhead all painted and ready to start putting things back together now :)
Heater bracket welded back on inside. Looks like the gear selector shaft runs pretty close to the bottom of the heater.
Woo hoo 3 pedals, starting to feel like I'm making some progress rather than just stripping, cutting, welding and grinding.
N/S driveshaft built up with Allspeed mini to Vauxhall shaft. The splines in the mini end were very tight in the CV joint. I removed it twice, cleaned and checked the splines and in the end had to hammer the shaft onto the CV joint. Don't fancy my chances of getting it off again in a hurry :S

Good news I've found a donor car, picking it up tomorrow. It's a 94 Astra GLSi with a C16SE 88,000 miles so not too high and a new MOT LOL, will seem a shame to scrap a car with a new MOT
Brake servo mocked up and it all fits nicely.

One pile of crap donor car but has a good engine and box. Was impressed with how it went in the heavy Astra, should go like stink in a mini.
Engine looks, sounds and drives well

Shimmed up the front panel to get a nice fit
A couple of extra thick washer on the rear subframe mounts
