Please check that BOTH valves are closed, you have two TDC's, one with valves open and one with valves closed, which is the one you want.

Which is why checking the valves are rocking on number 4 cylinder is a better way........

That I dont know, I will have to check withe the Nodiz guys.

Unless it runs a wasted spark, you need to find the TDC at the end of the compression stroke

On my early mini, the flywheel has the TDC markings which i used to statically time the engine (using light bulb on the distributor) as per the Haynes manual.

The engine rotates clockwise (when viewed from the front of the engine itself, or when looking over the left hand wing). Not meant to be patronising, but if you can fully understand the purpose of ignition timing etc in an engine, the actual `doing' bit to set it correctly makes much more sense.

Two main factors influencing ignition timing......engine load, and engine speed.
